Played around with tubes today. Probably shouldn't have, ate up more time than I'd like.

Listened to. . .

Bill Evans Complete on Verve, disc 10 (Intermodulation with Jim Hall, and A Matter of Conviction material with Gomez and Philly Joe.)

Grateful Dead, "Blues for Allah" Mobile Fidelity SACD. I love the amazing guitar sounds on this album, Jerry enjoying a fantastic instrument and really layering a great tapestry.

Chick Corea and Origin at the Blue Note, the single disc version. Love this band, great live sound as well.

John Coltrane, "Ballads," Japanese Platinum SHM-CD

Hi John, are you aware of the most recent release "Just in Time"? The final recording.

Simply marvellous

W.

Yes, I have "Just in Time". Astonishing. Arguably Buddy's best big band recording ever (in the top 3, for sure). Recorded 6 months before his death.

John Coltrane, "Ballads" Japan Platinum SHM-CD. Again. . . it sounds so good. This is the best sounding version of this release I have heard.

Perfect pairing of Rollins with Jim Hall, who is both astonishing at single notes and chords, or best, a mixture of both.

Yes. :tup  A "perfect" record.

Excellent platter released on a rather unheralded label ....

IMO Mood releases were a mixed bag, some brilliant (like the Dauner solo album), others heavily over-produced (like the Voices LP or the Head, Heart & Hands. I'll open a thread on the label.
