Russ Freeman's piano work on that "West Coast Session" CD really caught my ear last night.  That's what prompted me to also cue up Among Friends -- wanting to hear more of Pepper & Freeman together.

Agreed, some outstanding playing by Russ Freeman here .... and although "Among Friends" is excellent (IMO) it doesn't reach the lofty heights of the "West Coast Session" - but probably nitpicking ....

Joe-Roland-Vibe-Players-Of-Bethlehem-Vol

So the liner notes on this CD reissue don't provide any clue as to the personnel heard on this recording, but they do inform us that Joe Roland was the " son of the Hotel Savoy's chiropodist".  I'm glad that's cleared up.
