Unfortunately other than doing a bit of isolation component shifting I didn’t get to spend time with the system yesterday. I missed it! I hope to get a little time in today. Everything changes when I don’t listen to enough music.

Starting off a cold morning with “Hal Wilner Presents Weird Nightmare–Meditations on Mingus.” This recording has fascinated me for decades with its use of instruments developed by Hary Partch. A very interesting release–and I love the Mingus music at its core.

Disc 1

Is that the original release? I have the original (on 2 CD). It's excellent, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for the expanded (7 CD worth) reissue.

Yep. I have the original 2-CD set -- and I felt like that was enough for me.

“Ernie Wilkins Kenny Clarke Septet” Savoy/Denon cd

Recorded the year I was born. . . an early RVG recording. . . and swinging in that Marshall/Clarke way that made many Savoys so great. And Eddie Bert on trombone–a plus!

Baritone Saxophone – Cecil Payne
Bass – Wendell Marshall
Drums – Kenny Clarke
Engineer – Rudy Van Gelder
Piano – Hank Jones
Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone – George Barrow
Trombone – Eddie Bert
