Nina's Blues 1959-1962 Fremeaux

Does anybody know anything about this? is this just a generic compilation of stuff that was always out? Or is a unique set? Thanks.

I thought from the start it would be some kinda comp of her whole career. But then the description says

a complete set of Nina Simone's effervescent recordings from her early period

So it's more early Simone.

It's a selection of her Bethlehem and Colpix recordings.

I doubt it is "complete" in any way, like the short description on the website linked says, but would have to dig out the CDs to check.

This is the one I have landed on for her early material, after previously going a few other routes.  I also have the Philips and RCA box sets, plus the post-1962 Colpix Carnegie Hall album.

.Early Nina Simone, especially the Colpix releases, is a discographical mess. The Roulette CDs available for a short time are the best issues, IMO, but still a mess.

Is there any plan (e.g., Mosaic) for someone to clean this up and release it in a clean, newly mastered box?

I don't think so. Too many bootlegs around. The Roulette single CD reissues probably are as good as it gets.

Probably right, and too bad.  I have a 2-CD anthology of Colpix material that Rhino put together (iirc) and one of the CD reissues of her Bethlehem album.  The later Philips and RCA sides have definitely been done more justice over the years.  Didn't Collectables reissue most of the Colpix albums as twofer CDs at one point?
