William Hurt has passed

Sorry to read today that Oscar-winning actor William Hurt died at age 71. He was always interesting to watch and gave some great performances. RIP.

This is a bit of shock and 71 is certainly too young.  My favorite Hurt movies/performances are Body Heat and especially The Big Chill.  I know the latter gets mixed reviews but it came out as I was developing strong bonds with a group of people at college, and so the themes were very real to me at the time. 

I don't know how many times I've repeated "I could have, I chose not to. I'm not hung up on this completion thing."

He had some great performances, but The Big Chill was not one of them. I couldn't sit through it again at gunpoint, due to the dumb script.

I've since learned about some nefarious behavior around his ex-partner Marlee Matlin that leaves quite a bad taste in my mouth. Cocaine is a hell of a drug...

I saw Broadcast News.  His character was very dislikeable.

He was so good, I disliked him ever since!
