Couldn't you have squeezed a few more in? ;)

Back in the day I bought the Bruckner 7th by Eichhorn and the Linz Orchestra. I could only afford one at the time and never managed to get any more and now they have now been out of print for a long time. Fantastic recording though.

So I wonder if this is a lie or not, but I hope it isn't.

Anyway, had to order it to find out.

After digging Jose James blow "Simply Beautiful" from his 'While You Were Sleeping' disc coped Al Green's Greatest 'I Still In Love With U' to hear the O.G's version. Can't cut Al but Jose's version's is sweet and Kuroda's solo is def. Word.

Some nice music there. Is that the original "Baraka" or the new reissue?

I'm guessing original. It was from eBay.

AALY + Ken Vandermark - Live at the Glenn Miller Café

Italian Instabile Orchestra - Skies of Europe

Vinny Golia/Joëlle Léandre/Ken Filiano - Haunting The Spirits Inside Them

First track from the AALY disc - about 3 minutes in, listen for the screaming from the audience when they kick in real strong from a sax duo break. Fwiw I scream with them. I'm digging it out this weekend.

Did you notice they cover Ayler's Ghosts?? It's pretty damn dark and almost gruesome.

Very very intense and exciting. How much you pay? $20?

It's worth double that

Love that you sprung for Skies of Europe. The first of the two tracks is a classic performance with an incredible theme. The grand orchestra at their most Italian and with a groove here and there to boot. Hope u enjoy

Friday and Saturday:

Ellington — Recollections of the Big Band Era
Teri Thornton — I’ll Be Easy To Find
Charleston Chasers — (not the original group but an utterly awful ricky-tick English revival band; my mistake)
Art Lande — Shift in the Wind (a flier because I recall Ethan Iverson saying on his blog that Lande was a very interesting, unjustly neglected figure; haven’t listened to it yet)
Earl Wild/Liszt — Piano Extravaganzas on Operatic Themes (an RCA Record Club “exclusive” from 1962)
Schola Antiqua — Plainchant & Polyphony from Medieval Germany (Nonesuch). New music to me, darn interesting, 1974 performances don't sound dated to me in a realm where styles of interpretation probably have changed over the years, but I’m no expert.
Gene Krupa Plays Gerry Mulligan Arrangements — very early Mulligan charts are interesting, performances (especially the solo work) by 1958 NYC studio band are rather generic.
Brahms Violin Concerto — Francescatti/Ormandy (had high hopes for this because I’ve been getting into Francescatti and have enjoyed everything I’ve heard from him so far, but he seems rather detached here)
All of the above from two nearby Half-Price Books stores, most on LP, none more that $1, some at 25 cents.

Got this album on K7 in Paris a couple of weeks ago but found alarming crackles at one point. Never looked for this because I never heard of it until I saw it there (apparently issued in 2011), but they had it at Amazon UK, so I got it yesterday evening.

Ibro Diabate - M'maloloe - DIane Sanussi Vibrations

Good album, much in the style of the other 4 I have.

But I saw this one, too, another I'd never heard of but which came out in 2003!

Ibro DIabate - Esclave de l'argent - Syllart

This is a brilliant album! Completely different from his other work.

And today, the postman brought

John Patton - Blue John - BN SHM thingy

Really nice bonus tracks - very pleased.

Yes, it's on what might be called the "aristocratic" side, but I listened again today and take back what I said above about Francescatti being "rather detached" here. It's a marvelous performance, and the playing of Ormandy's Philadelphia Orchestra is damn good too.

I previewed a couple of tracks from Blue John on the internet and think it's a very dull, lightweight record. Much as I enjoyed That Certain Feeling, Let 'Em Roll and Along Came John, Blue John confirmed my prejudices against jazz organ. If the five new tracks with Grant Green are similar to the main album, then I really don't need those.

Now the SHM of Larry Young's Of Love And Peace seems more like my cup of tea. I'll get that instead.

Mine arrived yesterday too. Looking forward to giving it a hearing later this morning.

Is that the same content as the Collectors Choice CD John or is there new additional material on it? I have the CC.

I don't have the CC edition, but this has 5 tracks that are said not to have been issued before. They're very nice.

On holiday way out west. Managed to get to Amoeba ,San Francisco , not much of real interest. Picked up Frank Wess - Steamin' and Willis Jackson - Shuckin' . Both trident blue label Prestige pressings. Irritated that I failed to realise that the Wess is merely a reissue of Thad Jones- After Hours, which I already own. Grrrrrh.

I ordered from Dusty Groove the 2LP "Conversations" - Roscoe Mitchell. Surprisingly low price of $16.99 for a double LP. Hmm, hope that's not reflected in the quality.

While I was at it, I got the Complete Remastered Black Saint and Soul Note box of Oliver Lake. Price on that was just an OK $34.99. Looking forward to checking that out
