It's a session he did for Black And Blue with Milt Buckner. It was reissued a few years back with extra tracks on an import CD, haven't run across that one yet. Anyway, killer stuff and you can get the Laserlight version for about $5.

A couple of CDs by the great Rev J M Gates

It's incredible how popular Gates was. He recorded 44 tracks for 7 different companies on the 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 & 16 September 1926; one day off in ten! (His manager didn't commit him to a contract with any company, and they all wanted to record him.)

George Clinton Presents the P-Funk Allstars - How Late Do You Have 2BB4UR Absent?

Curtis Counce - You Get More Bounce With Curtis Counce

How is that new Clinton album?

Captain Beefheart anthology, The Dust Blows Forward. My first Beefheart (longtime Zappa fan, however. I have no explanation for why it took me so long to dig into some Beefheart)!

Just ordered The Procrastinator from Amazon. Am I in for a treat?

It doesn't suck.

:o:blink::D

Now there's an understatement! You're in for quite a treat!

(and what the heck took you so long to order that one? ;):w)

I went a little ballistic at SF Amoeba yesterday (and got lucky):

Dizzy Reece: Blues in Trinity (TOCJ)

Gil Evans Orchestra: Blues in Orbit

Johnny Dyani w/John Tchicai & Dudu Pukwana: Witchdoctor's Son

Dwight Trible: Living Water

Billy Harper Quintet: In Europe

David Murray Octet: Ming

and:

Arthur Doyle Plus 4: Alabama Feeling (! CD not LP--but that was still like 1,000 copies, right?)

 ....that sums up why I hadn't bought it earlier (and the fact that the record shops around here are dismal; I've only recently started buying online.... )

And you're both right...it don't suck at all. It arrived this morning.

I've a feeling I'll grow to love this disc.

Funky, in every sense of the word.

I'm still absorbing it, but my guess is that it's one of those doubles discs that you'll feel would make a nice single disc. My other guess is that every listener will differ quite a bit as to which tracks are the keepers.

It's George Clinton, fahgahdsakes! :excited:

Two George Lewis discs

~ one featuring the N.O clarinetist (At Club Hangover v.1) and the other the trombonist (Homage To Charles Parker). :)

Well, the computer’s back from the menders.

Recent purchases, while I’ve been off-line have been:

Strangely, the sleeve notes say this was recorded at the end of Jimmy Ponder’s “What’s New” session, but the date given is July 2000. “What’s new” was recorded on 5 August 2002! Ponder’s “Thumbs up” was recorded on 3 July 2000, but Ludwig isn’t on it, though Brooks was. “Double exposure” is a great album, though.

One my importer couldn’t get when it came out a year or so ago. Very nice stuff.

Wonderful rare 70’s funk from a great, underrated, band. And is that a GREAAASSSSY sleeve or what!

More from Rev Gates, from 1-6 December 1926. This one includes the incredible sermon, “You’ve got to lay down and die some day” – “You, you, you policeman; arresting innocent people; you know you’ve got to lay down and die some day!” Some things never change.

Just got Bobby Hutcherson's The Kicker----should have bought it years ago. An excellent album, one of those overlooked Blue Note gems. In this case, overlooked because unreleased for 36 years. Played it in tandem with Idle Moments last night.
