AndrewHill Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Thanks guys. I'm sure gonna enjoy these recordings. Alot of good music to look forward to hearing in the coming days. Yeah, nice 'free' haul Tom Second those Peppers, nice stuff there. Quote
BruceH Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 The CD of English Settlement just came in. I used to have the British vinyl double-album with only three or four songs per side. I eventually sold that and eventually began to regret it. Kind of annoying how the CD booklet simply reproduces the album's song-listing and lyric sheet at CD size, so you would need a powerful magnifying glass to read the lyrics (at least I would.) I'll never understand why "Fly On the Wall" wasn't released as a single. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Back from North Wales yesterday and found, waiting in the hall: Very nice (and cheap!) compilation of ABC material, very little of which I've got already. But doesn't include "Worried life blues". Still... Also, two from Gunther Gretz: I thought Gunther had issued this on Popular African Music, but it's an old issue on Bolibana, as it turns out. He also had this one in stock, so I sprang for it, too. Both were quite expensive, but they're both fabulous albums. And none of the tracks (I think) are included in the recent Sterns compilation of Keletigui & co, which is highly admirable! MG Quote
DMP Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Grant Green, "Visions," Don Friedman, "Straight Ahead," and Oliver Nelson, "Swiss Suite." (From Dusty Groove, so you can check the overblown descriptions...) Quote
AndrewHill Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 Wasting time in FYE, while my wife shopped for clothes, and stumbled across a sealed copy of Joe Chambers' Phantom of the City for $1.97! Guess it wasn't a total waste of time Quote
mellowT Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 I bought the Art Pepper Hollywood All-Star Sessions from Amazon Marketplace's Newbury Comics today. I verified that indeed it's not a cutout or UPC gouge, but fully new retail. I've played all 50 sound samples 3 times today, so I think I'll enjoy it. Also took a chance on the Bud Shank/Bob Cooper Mosaic Select that's still available on Amazon. Not sure if they'll in fact deliver in the 1 to 3 weeks promised. The last one on eBay went for almost $100, so $64 is a bargain in comparison. Quote

jeffcrom Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) Buncha jazz EPs at a shop in Cophenhagen: Tony Scott (Swinging in Sweden); Sidney Bechet on Vogue doing Christmas tunes (his last recording session, I believe), and several by Papa Bue's Viking Jazzband - one with George Lewis. They had some cool 78s, but I doubted they would survive the baggage handlers on the trip home. Also picked up a CD by a Danish saxophone quartet: Saxopaths. Never heard of any of them, but I'm a sucker for saxophone ensembles. Edited October 20, 2009 by jeffcrom Quote
