clifford_thornton Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Forthcoming/soon on Autonomedia: https://autonomedia.org/product/black-mystery-school-pianists-and-other-writings-by-matthew-shipp/ Some of these pieces I've read/seen, others are new to me and probably will be to you as well. Looking quite forward to it! The cover photo of a young Matt is something else. Quote
Rabshakeh Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 I'm interested too. The title essay is one of the more insightful essays on jazz that I have read in recent years. Quote
JSngry Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 This will be a print book, right? Count me in if so! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 12 Author Report Posted May 12 For what it is worth: Matthew Shipp and I will be in conversation about our respective books––Black Mystery School Pianists and Other Writings (Autonomedia, 2025) and Singularity Codex: Matthew Shipp on RogueArt (RogueArt, 2023) at Monument, a fantastic gallery and community space in Kingston, on May 30 at 7PM. This event is free and open to the public, and we'll have copies of our books available. Matt's is a collection of essays, lectures, and prose beginning with the title essay delineating a landscape of post-Monk pianism into which his own work falls, and the entire volume is a fascinating statement of intent and a quest for knowledge and understanding. My book is a bit different, and documents the 25 recordings (and one printed volume) Matt did for the French label RogueArt as well as providing context through rangy interviews with crucial and long-term collaborators. We hope to see you there! (flyer design by d.norsen, with apologies to Steve Albini & Byron Coley) Quote
Rabshakeh Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Looks amazing. Good luck with the event. Is your book out now, by the way? Quote

felser Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Beware of the link - I got a virus alert and ended up deleting the page and running a quick virus scan. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 12 Author Report Posted May 12 that happened to me on a different browser just now -- I'll see if Autonomedia can fix it. Quote
JSngry Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 I have the book on tap to get to here shortly. Looking forward to it! Quote

OliverM Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Got this little book in a parisian record shop. Fascinating read. Sometimes debatable positions, but great to get into this type of mapping/ matrix of a gifted musician. Quote

Lorna is a photographer and took photos for a number of Shipp CDs on RogueArt. Quote
