They only seem to be doing CD for the extensive multi-disc release like the latest Kenny Burrell release. I don't think you'll be seeing any CDs of "High Frequency" or "Hipnosis" any time soon. Even for the Japanese market? Quote

That's cruelly funny, because I have each as single LOs in double LP sets. So the way to solve that is to combine the both into a new double CD packet. Let nature find its own symmetry. You could even use the IG cover photo! Quote

Joe might be able to ask Don Was if there might be a chance and see if he can get a definitive answer there. BN did release Just Coolin' as a slim Digi-pack, at an affordable price. Who on this board wouldn't scoop up new Digi's of HF and Hipnosis? Spitballin', but this board alone would probably cover production costs, cuz' we're all going to buy it, right?. 7 hours ago, JSngry said: Hip Frequency!!! Jack Nosis!!! High & Hip!!! As soon as I talk about what a huge fan I was of Was (Not Was) and walking the dinosaur, we'll have single cd reissues in no time. 😊 Quote

I don't think he reads all of his e-mails or mine got sent to his spam folder - which is more likely. I worked with many people who never read their E-mails, so I'm not surprised with either event. Yeah, this is not going to be as easy as I thought when I talked to Joe. Mr. Was (not Was)? Can we walk our dinosaurs together? About those Jackie Mac's... Kevin, I am on a mission, I am going to get a convo going with Mr. Was, and get those Jackie Mac's on board for release. Look, Joe loves Jackie Mac, think Don Was is going to have to face the fact that Jackie Mac is a big deal at Blue Note. This is what I am going to do. I am going to email Joe and get a Zoom meeting set up with Don and pitch these Jackie Mac CD's. That's just what I do. HG Edited yesterday at 12:22 PM by Holy Ghost grammar Quote

danasgoodstuff Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago CDJapan : [Updated] Blue Note 85th Anniversary Reissue Series Remastered by Kevin Gray current Japanese CD reissue series has some McLean, both as a leader and as a sideman, when more is issued on LP here it should be on CD in this series and I've seen them in US bricks & motor at reasonable prices Quote
jazzbo Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago Just a note that the 85th Anniversary Reissue Series ended last year. There may be a stray individual release (like the Burrell at the Five Spot) or maybe even a new series (seems unlikely this year, maybe in a few more years) but this one has no new reissued coming out within it. I get what you're saying, but it seems absolutely absurd. US buyers of BN CD's have to shop the Japanese market for a US-based company product. Admittedly, they are usually better quality, but why doesn't the US issue everything on CD like most of us in the US seem to listen to in CD format? Like why vinyl? Many LP's now reissued, I can't listen to unless, I get my turntable, equalizer and bunch of other crap I no longer have together. Like all the stuff BN is reissuing that we wished would come out on CD, seemingly will never see produced here in the USA. Quote
jazzbo Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago (edited) I have no real answer to this other than to say the US and Japanese markets of Universal/Blue Note are independent and the Japanese have always been very insular about their market and cater to it alone. And from what I gather from reading and a bit of correspondence Redbook cd is at this time a bigger part of the listening world in Japan than it is here in the US, more relevant and marketable. You and I listen to cds, and many here, but really this is an island of its own and most US persons no longer gravitate to cds the way we do. Is what it is. I think we'll see a few interesting re-packages and combinations of Blue Note material, but there will never again be a stream of releases in cd format as we saw forty, thirty, twenty, even ten years ago. I hope I'm wrong, I fear I am right. Edited 13 hours ago by jazzbo Quote

I'm still grateful to Norah Jones for selling so many millions of BN CD's so that they had the capitol to do all those dream-come-true reissues. Quote
JSngry Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago If it's that crucial to have a "CD", just burn the fuckers from the LPs and be done with it. And the see how many times you listen to it. Vinyl is not going to be around forever, and CDs won't be here to save the day. If you care at all about the future, hope that somebody somewhere is going to be around to offer hi-res files to people to fill the vacuum, or else we'll all be stuck with Spotify or it's successors. This is niche music as it is. Imagine wanting to hear Hipnosis 50 years from now. Better get hoped it gets used in a commercial or a zombie movie... 45 minutes ago, felser said: Sadly, you're absolutely right. You can probably also be thankful to Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey. et al for creating the capital to allow the vaults to be opened in the first place! Quote
JSngry Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago Oh wait, SMH...Both of those -Mac albums exist in American digital form. Gorgedi Pulemiis will be getting them out to his Andirrion labels just as soon as the cost is clear. Gang in there;!!! Quote

Seems to be tougher for post-1962 recordings, though some of the Enlightenment sets go up to 1964. Quote
JSngry Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago Maybe there's not the market? I mean, if the freeloaders don't want it, why would the legits? Now more than ever, handle this shit for yourself. Quote
