colinmce Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago I have a handful of his CDs since they turn up so often in the dollar bins, and I've enjoyed them all. But I would give this one the nudge. Arguably slightly dated by now, but it's intense, highly personal, and passionate modern jazz. Quote
mikeweil Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago I saw him live around that time, with his brother Antoine in the band. It was great, only that he overused the microphone, which he wouldn't really have needed in a club of that size. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I’ve got all 3 (or maybe it’s 4?) of the ones with Gary Thomas — initially because of Gary — and the they’re all really good. On second thought, iirc, there are 3 where Gary’s on the entire album — and one that he only plays on like 2 tracks (and I don’t have that one). It’s interesting to hear Gary in such a straight-ahead context. Quote
