colinmce Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 I have a handful of his CDs since they turn up so often in the dollar bins, and I've enjoyed them all. But I would give this one the nudge. Arguably slightly dated by now, but it's intense, highly personal, and passionate modern jazz. Quote
mikeweil Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 I saw him live around that time, with his brother Antoine in the band. It was great, only that he overused the microphone, which he wouldn't really have needed in a club of that size. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted December 12 Report Posted December 12 I’ve got all 3 (or maybe it’s 4?) of the ones with Gary Thomas — initially because of Gary — and the they’re all really good. On second thought, iirc, there are 3 where Gary’s on the entire album — and one that he only plays on like 2 tracks (and I don’t have that one). It’s interesting to hear Gary in such a straight-ahead context. Quote
