I have a handful of his CDs since they turn up so often in the dollar bins, and I've enjoyed them all. But I would give this one the nudge. Arguably slightly dated by now, but it's intense, highly personal, and passionate modern jazz.

I saw him live around that time, with his brother Antoine in the band. It was great, only that he overused the microphone, which he wouldn't really have needed in a club of that size.

I’ve got all 3 (or maybe it’s 4?) of the ones with Gary Thomas — initially because of Gary — and the they’re all really good.

On second thought, iirc, there are 3 where Gary’s on the entire album — and one that he only plays on like 2 tracks (and I don’t have that one).

It’s interesting to hear Gary in such a straight-ahead context.

purchased and enjoyed ! Great ! That´s the kind of acoustic straight ahead I still listen to.

That version of "Donna Lee" is incredible.

And as I said, Cindy Blackman when she was a jazz only drummer was my favourite of her generation.
