GA Russell Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Tommy John has died at 83. RIP. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/baseball/mlb-legend-tommy-john-dead-at-83/ar-AA2aeUOP Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Liked him as a Dodger, not so much as a Yankee of course. He did get off the good line after the surgery named after him. He said something about asking for Koufax's fastball. The surgeon gave him Mrs. Koufax fastball. Quote
JSngry Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 In my mind he'll always be a White Sox. Him, Gary Peters, Joel Horlrn, and Hoyt Wilhelm. AO. That was a hard rotation to beat in Strat-O-Matic! RIP Quote
jlhoots Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Brewers defeat Dodgers 3 out of 4. They (the Dodgers) can enjoy "renting" Skubal for a few months. Quote
Milestones Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Did the Red Sox make a deal with the devil? One has to wonder. Quote

If you are talking about their otherworldly run of success - if it was a deal with the devil he's already come to collect. That streak is long gone and as excited as I was during it, I am about equally as pessimistic with the latest injuries especially to the back end of the bullpen. And the talent that are starting on rehab stints are a long way from being ready to compete. Quote
BFrank Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Wild scene at Wrigley tonight vs the White Sox. PC-A hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 10th. Not only that, he opened the game by hitting one off the first pitch of the game to the Cubs. So, he bookended the evening with HRs on the first and last pitches to the Cubs. It also made him a 30-30 guy for the second year in a row. Needless to say, the fans were already screaming M-V-P! Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 18 Posted August 18 He's come a long way from his early season struggles. Quote
GA Russell Posted August 20 Posted August 20 As a hitter, the Braves' Ha-Seong Kim is having the worst year in major league history. He signed a one-year contract for $20 million! https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/baseball/braves-infielder-sets-mlb-record-that-no-player-wants/ar-AA2asRCn Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Over the last 1/3rd of the season the Red Sox are 41-13, a .759 winning percentage that over a full season would obliterate the modern record of 116 wins. Extra crazy that it came after a season high 14 games below .500. Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Very happy to see the Braves sweep the Dodgers. Yanks and Red Sox beginning a much-anticipated four-game match-up tonight as they continue to battle for the first wild card spot (a decent chance that the third AL wild-card spot may end up going to a team with a sub-.500 record, which would be an MLB first). Yanks' bullpen is a big vulnerability right now, and the offense ain't so great either. Talk is that Judge will be back in September, but I'm not counting on him to be in Judge-like form right away, given how long he's been on the IL. On the plus side it's been great to see the Yankees' top two prospects George Lombard Jr. (despite the recent spate of errors) and Spencer Jones make such an impact in recent weeks, and Cam Schlittler continues to be a strong candidate for the AL Cy Young. This season's flown by... less than five weeks till the playoffs start on September 29. Quote

Dan Gould Posted August 30 Posted August 30 That call was the worst f-ing pile of horseshit I have ever seen. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 30 Posted August 30 And in the end it hardly fucking mattered. Pathetic. They can make the playoffs and will lose in the first round to the Yankees. Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 11 Posted September 11 (edited) Anthony Volpe!!! What an inspiring return to the big leagues last night. 3-4, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB, and a curtain call after his grand slam that put the game out of reach: Edited September 11 by ghost of miles Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 19 Posted September 19 No complaint here if the Yankees have to survive the Red Sox and the Rays without Judge. I heard "eligible to return" on the last day of the season but that's incredibly optimistic when even a Grade 1 strain is 2-3 weeks recovery time. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Photos of Alex Bregman he posted is giving of Tony C. vibes. Hopefully he's OK but even if, completely shut eye, he is not playing in the WC round and I don't know about the Division Series if they get to it. Quote
