and it is very cold indeed, at least for us soft southern jessies.

Too true ! Still no significant fall of the fluffy stuff here, although a sprinkle is scheduled overnight.

I have a drive to Alpha Centauri/Lancashire to do on Monday afternoon so hope it thaws out up there !

You should be OK, Sidewinder, as the North West is relatively unscathed, being further from Russia than Lincs. or Notts.

I believe you were out of range of the nukes during the Cold War too!

Some of these pictures are freaking me out. Are you sure that Jonathan Harker and Lawrence Talbert aren't lurking 'bout somewhere?

Sorry, couldn't resist that. :-) :g

As long as the M5 and M6 are open I should be fine.

I'm told that the place I'm staying up near Warton has a habit of being freezing cold though.

Not totally dis-similar to the scene outside my front lane this morning. Substitute English hedgerows for those trees though. Quite nice !

Only marks in the snow were from a fox or badger that must have been snooping around overnight. More than likely a fox (there are hens just over the way).

Very nice slideshow of pictures here from the Beeb:

Another day with work shut! Never happened before in the 33 years I've worked at the place!

I tried to get off the estate yesterday afternoon. Got stuck halfway and had to do some digging. Made it onto the main A57 15 minutes later, went rounfd the roundabout and drove back. It took me 30 minutes, getting stuck twice.

(Sidenote: Given all the art above, very enjoyable programme on BBC 4 yesterday called 'The Art of Cornwall' about the St. Ives scene. Not painting I'd ever paid much attention to - my one visit to the Tate there left me mystified. But this programme made much more sense of it - particularly taken by Peter Lanyon's painting of a mining disaster at the Levant mine).
