Sheffield last night:

Seems east of the Pennines got the worst of it.

That makes me homesick (not).

We had a good bit more snow than that last winter. My Indian pal at the local kebab take out was both amazed and horrified, he'd never seen more than a few flakes of snow in Bengal.

My nephew keeps his home at 62 degrees and my brother and sister-in-law (they grew up in cold places) keep their home at under 60 degrees. My niece and I are unhappy at less that 78 degrees. No genetic consistency here.

Warmest Christmas in Madison, Wisconsin in recent years.

It's been depressing in a cold, damp, North Sea maritime climate way for several weeks now: like a journey on the M62 from Manchester to Leeds over Saddleworth moor, only not quite that bad.

As a tonic I've been taking vitamin D and wearing bright preppy colours to defeat it!

I remember driving on that very stretch of motorway in early June last year, and you could have sworn it was November, so dark, foggy and wet was it.

Anyway, it snowed here yesterday, so as usual, all the schools closed at 1130 for no apparent reason.
