These are not RVGs. I am in the process of finding out who did the remastering, but the initial info seems to indicate that they were remastered by the same team that has done all of the other TOCJs prior to the RVG series. Since I am a big fan of the sound of these, at a measly 1500 yen, I may buy quite a few as sonic upgrades. The "TOCJ sound" ranks right up there to my ears.

Too bad they're not SACD hybrids.

Later,

Kevin

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot... there will be 100 "best selling" titles celebrating BN's 65th anniversary. They will be limited editions.

Interesting to see that these are not RVG'd. I wonder if these will include extra tracks (ie, the Duke Jordan had two outtakes, I believe).

Oh yeah, I missed it before, but in looking back over this thread, it looks like no extras. Rats.

I got more or less the same info from Hiroshi Tanno.

These may end up displacing the "BN Works" CDs as the best BNs. But personally, I am just about exhausted from all the CD upgrading business, and I'm going to stick with what I've got. The orignal TOCJs will do for me until the Rapture. I am very pleased, though, for those who do not yet have Japanese reissues of these classic albums.

Slightly ironically, I think my best-sounding Japanese CDs are those recent Sergio Mendes reissues. Those are marvelous! Possibly, they are as good as they are because the original recording engineer(s) were very good. I didn't hear the LPs much, so I can't compare with them. Those CDs are so good that I sometimes put one on just to hear the great sound; but the music is great, too.

Yes......

I'm afraid to let you know they are indeed the best sounding BN's from Japan ever.

It's like taking away a blanket before your speakers without sounding edgy and hissy.

I've only compared 2 (Dippin' & Moanin') but the results are the same with both.

I did a ABC (TOCJ-4XXX vs TOCJ-9XXX vs TOCJ-64XX). (yes I have them all.......)

Cheers,

Reinier

Any new words on the merits of this reissue series (... Mr. Koers)?

I'd especially be interested in hearing how The Sidewinder and A Night in Tunisia came out. I'm also patiently waiting for Page One and Lee Morgan Indeed! to see new light.

This lot is at the right price, and it'll be hard not to pick up a lot of them. I just wish some of the more adventurous titles in the catalog were more popular in Japan. Then we could say things like, "Damn, Compulsion! is being reissued again? This is the fifth time! Enough already!"
