  1. Clint Hopson - RIP

Sad news. According to his profile he was 87, a respectable age.
  2. Chuck Berry R.I.P.

You're right, totally forgot about that third Hip-O set. Never got it, the material is not my cup of tea. The 1950s were Berry's prime years; the decline set in during the following decade, although he made a few fine recordings in the early 1960s.
  3. Jymie Merritt (1926 - 2020)

    Agreed.
  4. Bucky Pizzarelli R.I.P.

A contact of mine in the 1970s was a big Pizzarelli fan. Sad news.
  5. Jymie Merritt (1926 - 2020)

Another one of the "old guard" gone... Sad news.
  6. Chuck Berry R.I.P.

Universal also released You Never Can Tell: His Complete Chess Recordings 1960-1966 on their (now discontinued) Hip-O label. I have both sets, but don't like the sound very much, it's also too "sanitized" as you call it.
  7. John Prine R.I.P. (COVID-19)

I knew he was severely ill, so it's not totally unexpected, but still very sad news. I love his early albums, got the self-titled when it came out in 1971 and couldn't stop playing it. I'll miss him.
  8. Wallace Roney R.I.P (COVID-19 victim)

Very sad indeed and way too young, he would have turned 60 next month.
  9. McCoy Tyner has died, aged 81

According to a message from writer Ted Gioia on Facebook McCoy Tyner has died. Sad news, great pianist. Ted Gioia Facebook post
  10. I wonder how American tourists will cope...
  11. My buying and selling days with people outside the EU are long gone, not in the least because of the ridiculous overseas shipping rates these days.
  12. Ah yes, I see what you mean, those hidden costs.
  13. I can't remember when I last used checks, must be 20+ years ago. I'm not paying with cash in stores here in the Netherlands anymore either, I'm paying electronically by bank card; payments by smartphone are also pretty common here these days.
  14. Within the EU bank-to-bank transfers in euro are free, or at least they should be according to EU rules.
  15. When we still had checks/cheques here long ago the account number was indeed on them and I guess it's the same in the US.
  16. Shees man, calm down, it was just a general observation, not meant as a personal attack. If you want to use checks only, fine with me, no problem.
  17. It always amazes me that people in the US still use checks. Over here they're long gone, it's electronic payments, PayPal or credit cards only - and a variety of those and cash in stores.
  18. Got one in the EU. Thanks again for your offer, Brad! PM sent.
  19. I know, and I appreciate your offer. Meanwhile, someone in the EU has contacted me. I'll post an update as soon as I know more.
  20. Of course not. I got a booklet from Mosaic after I had sold the set. They were selling booklets for $10 at the time.
  21. Thanks Brad. Do you have any idea what they're generally asking for Mosaic sets, insanely high or moderate prices? There's also overseas shipping, which is quite expensive these days; that's why I was initially asking people living in the EU or UK.
  22. Thanks. I had the set, but sold it a couple of years ago in an effort to thin out my collection. Wrong decision...
  23. Sets are never reissued by Mosaic once they are OOP. See their statement here: Mosaic statement
  24. R.I.P. Cyril

Didn't know her and unfortunately don't remember her posts (haven't visited this board very often since I quit as a mod years ago), but this is all very sad and disturbing, someone dying so young. Somehow it feels like losing a friend. Thanks for posting the Dutch message (now deleted).
  25. R.I.P. Cyril

Thanks Tom, found her homepage, but didn't see any mention; maybe it can only be seen by Facebook friends of hers.
