  1. Thanks, as always, Lon. I agree about the 40th in comparison to the original (that I let go awhile back due to condition). But, the MoFis have been pretty spectacular. Agree about the SACD and you and I have the same player so I know where you are coming from.
  2. So - bumping this one up because I am curious if anyone has this or has any impressions (could not find Sidewinder's posts after this). Listening to the Mosaic set now and then I was going to throw on some 40th Anniversary goodness. Do I need this? I mean, come on, this is about my 15th version of this record. Hoping that I am fine between the Mosaic and 40th Ann (I do like the vinyl in that set by Wilder/Calbi) and I don't need to drive over the Music Direct soon....
  3. Public shout out to Tom for this thread. Been a glorious day, since work was manageable, I more or less caught a good portion today....and on into the night. Sincerely appreciated.
  4. Nice story, Ed. That's a great set. Picked up a partial quite some time ago from Mosaic with help from a board member (who used to be at the blue note board as well) I used to trade with. I too got into Mosaic in the late 90s (1997) when I was coming back to jazz. Haven't stopped since.

    Bob Berg

Really dig those Denon records with Stern and Dennis Chambers.
  6. First I have heard of its status as an endangered species. I am thinking about this one myself.
  7. Great record. I have been listening to this version of "Auld Lang Syne" as my go to version for many a New Year's Eve.
  8. I can vouch for the hi rez remasters. Sound pretty great over here.
  9. Hmmm. Whatever happened to JLH's plans to release a new disc by Broom? This trio smoked at Axpona.
  10. finished his Miles tome (whatever happened to Hardbop?) and it was pretty poor, unfortunately. Funny, the description above is exactly the image I have of what PDF would look like....
  11. Them's fightin' words! I agree with Milestones. Been loving the new group and Gary Husband in particular (who is touring Chicago with Holdsy this fall).
  12. Those are all great tables and make wonderful music. If it were me, I would go Rega. My main system had a P3-2000 for over a decade (I bought a VPI Classic last fall and it took me to another level). The Rega is in a second system now but it still gives me hours and hours of pleasure. Lots of good advice/thoughts in this thread, particularly from BeBop. On the cart front, I had a Goldring for a number of years and upgraded a few years back with a Clearaudio cartridge and it was worth the dough.
  13. Totally agree with Chuck. I'm at a loss for words for such disrespect.
  14. I've had this happen to a bunch of discs (some from mosaic) and they all play fine still. My Hard Bop has this issue as well. As for Mosaic, it ain't Amazon. We are talking shoe string budget there. Besides, I think shipping is only a couple of bucks to Stamford if you send media mail.
  15. Poor Satch's hair.....we hardly knew ye.
  16. BTW - you guys are bastards - ordered the Zeitlin and Handy a few days ago (along with Hard Bop). Thanks for the "encouragement", I am really excited to hear these.
  17. Hutch is one of my favorites - way up there. Going to pick up Denny and Handy ... I think. A little on the fence. Think I will pass on the Hackett, though he is a marvelous player. Ditto Mercer (well, great songwriter).
  18. Agreed. I love this record and that reissue sounds wretched. Will be interested to hear opinions once it is out.
  19. GA: I enjoyed this review when it appeared in Stereophile for what that's worth: http://www.stereophile.com/content/pioneer-sp-bs22-lr-loudspeaker
  20. Thanks for the tip. Been watching on Euro sites and this is much better. Now, if only the Herbie would come down as much.
  21. Cool. Thanks again for the advice. Trying to decide to pick up some of those Atlantic/Warner and Blue Note gems. Back on topic - I feel very fortunate to have all of these options available to me. I suppose it depends on my mood - I love vinyl but a lot of times, I am just too lazy (I am a big fan of the Music Matters series, for example, and sometimes I don't want to get off my ass every 8 minutes). But, as I have purchased better equiptment, I'm not going to lie - it has the ability to make an already enjoyable recording a new experience (or worse, as my systems tend to not be very good at hiding problems). At the end of the day, though, I am happy as a clam to pop in some recording into my discman/"low-end" grado combo that I would have never thought I would be able to listen to in the days of my youth (70's). But very interesting, Bev, in terms of the "pro-CD" movement. I suppose only time will tell before there is a CD resurgence.
  22. Thanks, guys - how does one tell them that it should be a gift?
  23. Hey guys - speaking of off topic - where are you buying these LT series CDs? CDjapan? Dusty Groove adds tax for me, so if I can avoid that route and come out the same or ahead, that might be a good call.
  24. Origin is from Seattle. Branker is from NJ - great writer and has put out several strong releases under his name, particulalry with the Ascent collective.
