  1. I like these two, though quite different from each other. Both are extremely cheap. The second set contains that is probably the slowest Alla Turca in existence.
  2. Still listen to July Morning once in a while. The lads don't deserve all the wrath unleashed on them by critics. Beats Led Zeppelin for sheer fun.
  3. Hey, Hans. There is a song in this world indeed dedicated solely to YOU. Song For Hans
  4. I kinda partial to this cover BTW, the colors are much crispier on the Toshiba version than on old McMaster. Now waiting for RVG to compare.
  5. Dizzy Reese Mosaic select- though the rest of the set isn't half bad either.

    Chopin

Anyone else here who spares some love for this recording of Nocturnes? As for polonaises- I recently stumble upon LP by Lazar Berman (it's on DG)- the guy who swore never to play Chopin after he didn't qualify for Chopin competition in Warsaw in his youth, yet apparently got coaxed into it by DG honchos. Haven't tried it yet though. I doubt it will be as good as his Liszt, but one never knows. But I sure like this reading of Polonaises:

I second Michel Devos's choice of Moravec (check his Debussy & Schumann too). Wonder if anyone here has heard these performances, which are also among my favorites:

    Funny Rat

Baby Sommer is the bomb on Pica Pica! I love Baby Sommer - been recently checking out the Berlin album with Cecil and 'Touch the Earth...' with Leo Smith and Kowald. Sommer's fantastic on both IMHO! Check out his solo CD- Sachsische Schatulle & his work as a member of Zentrallquartett- all CDs on Intakt Records.
  10. What great news! As for distribution- I'd try canadian Verge Music. Chances are that they'll have it soon.
  11. Some tasty local brews: (the one on the right) (Duck-Rabbit Baltic Porter)
  12. Her last name actually means FOX in Russian. Foxy Lady indeed! Cecil Taylor must be the main influence here. He's big among Russian intelligentsia- next only to John Zorn.

Talking about 13 year old prodigies, I wonder whatever happened to Sergio Salvatore?

    Funny Rat

Is "Funny Rat, Peter Brotzmann & Shoji Hano" Organissimo's way to say "Free jazz discussion thread"? 462 pages seems a bit excessive for discussion of this particular album, good as it probably is.
  15. Meanwhile, hold on to your Hat[to]s! You may be sitting on a goldmine
  16. I like "Unimpressed by his mixture of Polish/French and German-Jewish stock, his Soviet interrogator sent him on a train heading East for a labour camp - where he remained from 1945 until 1970." That's quite a piece. Whoever wrote it could sure make a living as a pulp fiction hack.
  17. Misha Mengelberg & Han Bennink Ganelin-Tarasov-Chekasin Motian-Frisell-Lovano Keith jarrett & keith Jarrett
  18. Now I wonder whose Mozart cycle it is. The whole thing is rather bizarre.
  19. Never understand all the thrashing of OP. OK, he's not an innovator or major trend-setter, but he's one of the most accomplished pianists in jazz & his playing is just plain beautiful, even on his cheesier albums. BTW, has anyone got CD of Fiorello/My Fair Lady for sale or trade? I'm looking hard for this one.
  20. much abused topic verging on paranoic time to stop
