Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
billyboy replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Looks like the Hawkins is gone. -
The Ellington vol. 1 is showing up for order on Amazon Prime now for $60.20, Temporarily out of stock. So maybe this is getting reprinted.

Just finished this, and am going to start Book 2 immediately. I plowed through this book, couldn't stop reading it. I was reluctant to start a 6-volume Norwegian memoir, but I was completely engrossed in it. From the “Hoarders-“ like fascination with cleaning the house after his father dies, to sneaking alcohol to a party in high school, to his love of books and music, this was exactly what I was in the mood to read. Can’t recommend it enough!

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Like some jazz box sets, 'Complete' might mean too much of a good thing, but this set looks great! Unlike 'Peanuts', which, granted, ran for 50 years, this strip was consistently inventive and funny, with fantastic artwork. Can't wait! Available at Amazon for pre-order at less than $100. As a side note, I was intrigued by the 'Complete Peanuts' collections that are coming out, but wasn't sure if I'd want them on my shelf. After getting the first volume out of the library, I'm plunking down my hard-earned cash on these books. The early strips from the 50's are really quite funny and edgier than the later comics I'm more familiar with.

Don't know if 2 cds counts as a box, but... Complete 1957 Riverside Monk and Coltrane, $3.99 -
The Bach Cantatas box is now $41.99! I've been listening to this one a lot; a great way to pick up a nice chunk of Bach's vocal works.

Ships in 1-2 weeks, maybe? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000O590N4

Amazon offers MP3 downloads of this series, even the out of print ones, for about $14. For some reason, volume 9 is only $3.99! You miss out on the liners, but if you want the music, There It Is!

The dvd may not be remastered in anamorphic widescreen. Check the case and see if it says something like "remastered for 16x9 TVs." Most newer dvds are set up for this, but a lot of the older ones aren't, which means you get your movie boxed on all sides with black bars. Only using the 'zoom' function will help fill the screen, but the quality of the picture is degraded.

Thanks for posting this, I missed it. He also wrote the score for a couple Don Knotts films, especially 'The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.' -

Yeah, the tone of this show is just perfect. It's easy to write this show off as a light, ridiculous comedy, but Buddy and Max are just spot-on. One of my favorite shows, maybe my favorite sitcom. -

Just finished Watchmen, and really enjoyed it. Started Moby Dick yesterday, and I'm completely digging it. I've even laughed out loud a couple times. It's been one of those books on my list to read, but never have, and I'm not getting any younger. I was worried it would take forever to read, but I feel like I'm going to plow through it. I guess we'll see! I'll let you know when I finish it. Also reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Reading The Hobbit to my kids, and Kidnapped to my 10-year-old.

There's a great book called 'The Secret House' by David Bodanis, that is full of electron microscope photos of everyday things around the house. After I saw these photos, I never used an electric shaver again. This one is a closeup of a hair cut with a straight razor: And this one is a hair cut with an electric razor: I do trim my beard with an electric trimmer, though.

Anybody else going to see the Brad Mehldau Trio next Sunday (4/27) at the Annenberg Center at Penn? I've never seen him live, and am looking forward to the show. Technically, I think he's a great pianist, and I really enjoy his Radiohead and Nick Drake covers.

Ours was Nat King Cole's 'Embraceable You' from the 18th (!) CD of the Mosaic set.
