  1. Apologies if this is duplicative--I'm on mobile and the search isn't working that well. Any suggestions for live music or record (vinyl) shopping in Atlanta/environs? I'm here for two nights. Thanks!
  2. Olivia is two. You are wise. You mind if I hit you up for advice when the going gets rocky (as it is bound to) in a few years? Apropos of your kids getting married...as nerve-wracking as the teen years can be, I don't know that there's anything more nerve-wracking than one of your kids coming home with somebody and having to pray to ANYBODY's god that this is not "the one"... My daughter actually asked me one time when she was, like, 12 or so, "Dad, is it ok to date for me somebody who's not the same religion as us?" (this coming after we'd not been to church for about 4-5 years...go figure...it must be Texas...) I don't know what that means, I really don't. Give me the guy's name. She gave me a name. Yeah, he's a good kid, good family, good character, nice guy, hell yeah it's ok. Good choice! "Well....uh....it's not him...." You see these gray hairs? Yeah....
  3. The world would truly, finally be a kind and benevolent place! You got my vote, Lon!
  4. I have to agree...I was just thinking the other day that it's been nine years--NINE YEARS!!!--since our happy migration from the BNBB that fateful March day. Like many of you, that nine years has been a wild trip--moves from Seattle to Philadelphia to Seattle to New York to Philadelphia; a divorce and a marriage; a daughter; a couple of houses. And like some of my oldest friends--this mad place has been an unshakeable constant. Thanks to all, and most of all to our host for letting this grow organically.
  5. Oh man , Jeff, its great to "see" you! Have really missed your wit, wisdom, and musical insights around here. As 7/4 said, you are most definitely not the only one life has chewed up--so hang and let's commiserate. Stick around, brother!
  6. 'Fraid Morrissey beat you to the punch! Paint a Vulgar Picture (The Smiths)
  7. I'm sorry, I guess I was vague. I guess what I'm really asking is are these releases (the single-disc releases) like the 20-bit series that came out in the mid- late-90's (in terms of packaging, album art, etc.), or is this like a "new" series? For example, Impulse issued Coltrane at the Vanguard in its 20-bit series--in 1995 or thereabouts--and then again in 2008 as part of what appears to be the "Originals" series. But I can't determine whether there's different mastering, or ??? Pictorially, vs Can anyone shed some light? Thanks!
  8. Up, one last shot in case anyone knows the answer before preorder is over. Thanks!
  9. Looks like a ton of latter-day impulse single discs, including all the posthumous releases, are dropping stateside on 2/7. Did they do this with the previous volumes, and if so, can anyone speak to whether the single-disc versions are just "broken up" volumes? Or do they have that horrible "verve originals" packaging?
  10. Okay--got a ticket for the 11:00 show @ VV. Let's coordinate!
  11. Chuck--if you think you'll hit VV on Monday to see the orchestra, let me know--I'll buzz up and join you.
  12. Heading to D.C. tonight to see Benny Golson at Bohemian Caverns. Betrand, you going (we're hitting the 10:30 set)? Rooster?
  13. Damn. Have seen him a few times here in NYC with all different combos. This sucks. RIP.
  14. WOW. I can't thank you enough for hipping me to this. Definitely worth a watch.
  15. My (almost) two year old daughter Olivia was completely transfixed by the DVD from Vol. 1; she literally sat and watched for the entire 53 minutes, and if any of you has (or once had!) a 2-year-old, you'll know that's an extraordinary proposition. Therefore, my response is: anything with a corresponding DVD!!!
  16. Paypal sent! Looking forward to it!
  17. Count me in for some support, Joel--loved your lyrical style when I heard it at Smalls. Hook us up with a link when you get one. Cheers!
