  1. I would take a green magic marker and highlight the edge of all of your CD's with it. That should work, and they'll sound better too!
  2. No wind in Philly; just rain, from about 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Flood watch for the schuylkill, but that's about it. Think we dodged a bullet; looks like the NJ beaches and chesapeake areas weren't nearly as lucky. Stay safe!
  3. To stay, or traveling, or ??? We're in Philly this weekend. Happy to help if I can. Send me a PM if so.
  4. This "festival" deserves a thread of its own! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  5. Slightly off-topic, but is that the case with all of the Miles "single-lp" box sets (on the corner, jack johnson come to mind)? The full original record is on the last CD?
  6. Speaking of which...where the hell has CONN been?
  7. Chilled heirloom tomato and peach soup with a 24-hour marinated flank steak and some Jersey corn for good measure. Summer rocks!!! P.S. Where the hell is Catesta? Dearly miss his posts in this thread...
  8. PM sent on Benny Golson & the Philadelphians (Blue Note) [quintet w/ L. Morgan, R. Bryant, P. Heath, P.J. Jones; extra tracks of quintet w/ R. Guerin, Timmons, P. Michelet, C. Garros; SBM remaster] Sal Salvador, “Quintet/Quartet” & “Kenton Presents” (Blue Note/Capitol) oop [sokolow, E. Costa, J. Williams] Thanks!
  9. Great thread! I've always loved the way the Brubeck quartet devolves into laughter when they make it to the end of Pick Up Sticks, the last track on Time Out. Always makes me smile.
  10. Bertrand--any Freddie Redd performances on the horizon?-
  11. Thanks, all! The big 40 this time 'round. Had a great couple of days on Smith Island in the Chesapeake--10 miles off the Maryland shore, no cars, nothing to do but lie in the sun and eat crab and drink wine. Here's to the next 40!
  12. Incredible and awe-inspiring. Kirby, I was looking for you--sorry we didn't connect! It's going to take me some time to process what I heard. Completely unreal. Chuck, you weren't able to cover the miles, I assume. A long way. I feel so fortunate and lucky to have ARS-NOVA making this stuff happen in my back yard.
  13. Thanks for that, Kirby. It's bizarre/sad--every couple of years, there's a preservation effort; funds are raised; nothing is heard; then, a couple of years later, another cry for help. What's to be done?
  14. Dammit, man, why couldn't this have been Saturday? Will catch you on the next hit.
  15. One man's angel is another man's nuance. Dude, I've spent years listening to and studying these concerti and am always grateful for alternate points of view. Why denigrate them? If you don't want the alternate point of view, ignore it!
  16. Dan--not sure how old your car is, but if it requires an emission test for registration renewal, it's almost guaranteed to fail if you don't repair it. A bad cat converter can also f*ck with the emissions system, sometimes channeling exhaust back to the engine (if the cat converter has seriously failed, it can break up, rattle around in its housing, and plug up the exhaust/muffler/resonator) and making the car run badly/inefficiently. Also, make sure that the part she got is vehicle-specific; a "universal" cat converter will often require welding into place (!) whereas a vehicle-specific unit often comes situated within the appropriate exhaust system piping, making it more of a "bolt-in" operation. Good luck!
  17. The Vanguard orchestra, with our own Michael Weiss--a super treat any Monday you're in downtown Manhattan!
  18. Absolutely crushed by this news. Saw him a few times over the last few years, and the darkness set forth in that recent New Yorker article notwithstanding, he really seemed to be on the relatively right path. RIP.
