Side 1 or Side 2?

I'm a side 1 guy myself, totally hypnotic. Tattooed Bride breaks the mood, a lot, so I usually just play Side 1 for a day or so.

No, no, no. Not side 1 or side 2. The whole thing. "The Tattooed Bride" is something of a contrast, but not a mood-breaker. And it's one of Ellington's very best longer-form compositions - a really tightly-woven masterpiece.

No argument about the masterpiece part, but I have always flipped the record over out of obligation, never out of compulsion. Compulsion makes me keep playing Side 1 over and over again and again. Maybe a double 10" LP would have been ideal, but do the maths add up as far as track lengths, and did anybody even do double 10"LPs?

Wayne Shorter "the all seeing eye" (Blue Note, stereo NY USA).  I've had the RVG CD since it was released and finally got an original vinyl recently that is not plagued by the usual ringwear.  What a lineup on this record!  James Spaulding, Grachan, Freddie, Ron, Herbie, and Joe.  Oh and Alan too on one cut!

A good one for sure ....
