Lee Collins - A Night at the Victory Club (New Orleans). Parts of two nights in 1951, actually - one side is with a little "Dixieland" band, but the other side is with a four-piece band (trumpet, tenor, piano, drums) that's probably the kind of band Collins usually played with in Chicago.

Paul Desmond - Skylark (CTI). Typical original Van Gelder CTI pressing. Looks mint and plays with several spots of crackle. This one is actually one of the least crackly one yet. Other than the dated electric piano sound, which has never been one of my favorite sounds, this is a pretty, enjoyable date.

Milford Graves - Babi. Trio with Arthur Doyle and Hugh Glover. First play in 15 years and despite all the weird stuff I listen to I still don't really get it....

I bought a copy of that for two dollars back around 1980. I hated the saxophone playing so much that I sold it. I wish I had kept it for the collectors' value alone - it's so rare that it fetches some impressive prices.

If you were in St. Paul it could be the same copy. Once you tune out the horns the drumming is impressive but not that well recorded.

Steve Lacy - Catch. Duo with Kent Carter- Horo 1978 - lyrical and intimate. Love late 70's early 80's lacy - probably cause that's when I started to listen but also because he was really hitting everything.

Good one. Used to have it but my beater copy got let go before the "big move." Kept a minty UFO (orig) that I got for like $15 years ago, though!

Lester Young - Lester Young At Olivia Davis' Patio Lounge Washington, DC, 1956 (Pablo). Better recording than I thought it was going to be.

Stan Getz ~ Sweet Rain
Verve

Someone over on the Hoffman forums claims that every copy of this he's ever heard suffers from inner groove distortion. Do you hear it?
