Niko Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Helmut Sachse - Hannes Zerbe streaming this one via youtube... a split LP that was recorded in the first month of my life... it's a logical week for exploring more of this Easter stuff as we're approaching the 60th anniversary of the Berlin wall on Friday Quote

Niko Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Hannes Zerbe - Blech Band "Blech" is for "brass"... an album that proves that the spirits of Eissler, Weill and Ayler were alive and well in early-80s Eastern Germany... 16 horns (including 3 tubas) plus rhythm featuring international guest Willem Breuker... my copy came with a promo poster and an additional document in (poor) English and French, all provided by the government institution that was in charge of organizing the international tours of the country's artists... Dub Modal Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 This morning's listening. Lovely records, the both of them. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Jose James "Love in a Time of Madness" . . . something different, though his voice and phrasing is not un-Mose Allisonesque. Quote

Dub Modal Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 Thread on Stitt inspired me to put on: I've got the 32 Jazz CD reissue, but this Muse cover is much better. Nice work from all involved on this album. Jones' bass definitely has that 70s studio aesthetic but it's all good here. Quote
DMP Posted August 9, 2021 Report Posted August 9, 2021 “Benny Goodman in Moscow.” (I remember there was some criticism at the time (1962) that Goodman was hardly representative of where Jazz was at, why not send someone more modern - I always bought into that and avoided the LP - but listening now for the first time I have a different view. Plenty of room for Joe Newman, Phil Woods, Zoot Sims and others, Mel Lewis is the drummer, the band includes Victor Feldman, Jimmy Knepper, there are a couple of Tadd Dameron arrangements... Goodman - who sounds good - almost takes a back seat.) Quote
