Ellington in the 50s or Ellington in the 60s?

Ellington in the 70s, hearing that band get more and more ragged as the new pieces kept getting jaggier and jaggies is, as the man himself said, "beyond category.

Can I do this? Or are the rules wound really tight, like you have to answer the question exactly as asked, nothing else?

Probably not? But still, just checking.

I don't mind this at all.  It's discussion about the topic at hand, in the spirit of the topic at hand.

Message to All -- when you make a choice, don't forget to offer another set of options to keep the ball rolling.

Raymond Chandler, though I love both.

That would be my reply as well.

For me, it's gotta be DuNann -- because of the way he recorded pianos.  (Rudy probably "wins" for horns tho'.)

RVG for me--not really big on the DuNann sound.

I'd likely go Soul Note -- for Waldron and Lacy.

Red Garland or Wynton Kelly?

Interesting.  I've always wondered what Herbie's BN records would sound like if DuNann had recorded them.

And Horace's too.

Not me.

Wynton Kelly for me.

TOUGH choice.  They're both up there, among my all-time faves.

OK, I choose Weston -- if only b/c of his music on this album:

George Wallington or Al Haig?
