medjuck
Has Ornette's "Chappaqua Suite" ever been out on cd?
WD45
Yes. Sony France put out the two disc set a number of years ago.
medjuck
Thanks. Is it still available?
dave9199
I've seen it at Borders. Amazon or Half.com should have it if you don't mind used.
WD45
The only copy I have ever seen was in a Borders cut-out bin about 4 years ago, so you may have some trouble digging it up. It is pretty intense music, as you might imagine with Pharoah on board. This place seems to have it in stock...

7/4
Yes. Sony France put out the two disc set a number of years ago. And it's amazing.

Chuck Nessa
Has anyone seen the film this was the soundtrack to? The film soundtrack is performed by Nora Jones' dad. Ornette's score was rejected.

medjuck
Has anyone seen the film this was the soundtrack to? The film soundtrack is performed by Nora Jones' dad. Ornette's score was rejected. AS remember it The Fugs were also on the final soundtrack. They're not listed on IMDB but Ed Saunders is in the cast (as is Ornette). And "Phil Glass" was music supervisor. Perhaps he's responsible for rejecting Ornette's music.
paul secor
Has anyone seen the film this was the soundtrack to? I saw it when I was in college in the 60's. I remember almost nothing about it, which may say something about my memory, but probably says more about the film. I do have a double LP of Ornette's soundtrack, and that IS memorable. Eloe Omoe
Sony France put out the two disc set a number of years ago. As well as a Japanese Sony Master Sound cardboard edition in 1999 (SRCS 9192-3) that Italian Sony imported and distributed for a short while. I bought mine then. JohnS
Not played this for a while but isn't Pharoah's contribution limited to a piccolo solo?
Pete C
Not played this for a while but isn't Pharoah's contribution limited to a piccolo solo? No, Pharoah plays burning tenor. I believe he plays on Part 3 (of 4) only, but he makes his presence very much known.

Anyway it's been good to spin this great music again.

Lazaro Vega
It went fairly cheap on e-bay. That the second link offers it for only $14.99 is a great price for a double cd import.
Rooster_Ties
medjuck, I just sent you a PM. Turns out it was the "Who's Crazy" 2CD set that I had (and was thinking of trading, maybe), and not the Chappaqua Suite. Oops, my bad.

Before I got the CD, I used to record a fresh cassette off of the WKCR Ornette birthday broadcast every couple of years. clifford_thornton
Haven't listened to this in about four or five years. Will have to put it on when I get back from an attempted vacation... I remember Pharaoh on both tenor and piccolo, so there.
WD45
Just listening to this one this morning. Looks like someone has it for sale on Amazon for $499.99. Why hasn't this seen wider release in the US?
brownie
Just listening to this one this morning. Looks like someone has it for sale on Amazon for $499.99. Surprised that this gets so high. I see this item off and on in some of the secondhand stores here. Next time I catch sight of one more copy, I'll grab it and have it on the auction block. I still keep the original French CBS vinyl twofer!
