On to some old time jazz/pop: Frank Trumbauer “1929-1931” Chronogical Classics cd I really like the Trumbauer sound and feel. What is interesting here is that there’s “Popeye” voice chuckle I think done by Hoagy Carmichael on several of these tracks. . . years before there was a Popeye animated cartoon wth voice. . . curious. Good stuff!

December 29 Joe Lovano - 1952 Joe Lovano played at the Göttingen Jazz Festival on November 4, 2005, with the Harald Haerter Octet. He spontaneously replaced the ailing Michael Brecker for this gig only. I picked him up from the train station and bought the latest issue of Jazzpodium magazine with Sonny Rollins on the cover. I spent the whole day with him. The next day he flew back to the USA – unforgettable moments!
