This eagerly awaited set just arrived in US: Ordered this on the basis of forum recommendation:

First release of archival material. Not a reissue, but this seems like the best place to post it.

Great selection, and - along with the liner notes - a fine introduction into the rise of violin music in Italy in the 17th century.

Besides the Blue Note LPs this is my favourite: This trio rocks!

Ted Nash and his nephew Ted Nash, apparently. Who knew.

Up for renewed interest. The cover painting was done by one Don Stivers. He painted another jazz album cover—The Montgomery Brothers In Canada.

The fate of a particularly rhythmically-challanged drummer? A cliche-ridden sax player? A pianist too busy on his comping? A bass player taking overly-long solos?

I've never really enjoyed covers of "Giant Steps." This one is an exception. 💣💥 Keep the YouTube playlist rolling, and the next track is "South Africa Goddamn." Shepp quotes Coltrane's "Alabama" in fragments, but the allusion seems to play throughout the entire 20 minutes.

Symphony No. 5

This is one of my favorite piano trio albums.

I liked him in Don Pullen's Afro Brazilian Connection and the only time I saw Don Cherry live, he was on saxophone with Ed Blackwell at the Village Vanguard. That was two great sets of music. Sad news.

I know I'll enjoy it. The big ass storm has stopped. We seem to have a few day respite against us.
