RIP, saw him with George Benson decades ago, and have a couple of those Cadet albums.

Chicago - Something In This City Changes People (beautiful piano chords with all three lead singers simultaneously - Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Peter Cetera)

Re: vibist - It's Bill Lewis, but not his album. Nonetheless, gold star for even knowing those names - I don't! Correct on #5, Abraxas.
-
Pedro Almodovar Akira Kurosawa Jacques Tati Terry Gilliam

5 is the opening track of Abraxas Philly old timer vibists not named Khan or Walt ... Bill Lewis came to mind first, then Bill Ware. Bill Ware fits better.

Rich Perry - Mood (Steeplechase)

The guy could play (and play well) with literally almost anybody. RIP.

Too bad about Upchurch. I didn't know Richard Davis played with Springsteen.

Not really related to new releases, but rather a lack of them: does anyone know what happened to Astral Spirits? They seem to have largely gone dark this year after one release back in March.

What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

It depends on the profile of the outlet. Don Sebesky's obit at Broadwayworld.com didn't mention his jazz work at all. Most Richard Davis obits talked more about him playing with Van Morrison and Bruce Springsteen than Andrew Hill.

Guitarist Phil Upchurch died November 23rd. He was 84. Looking at his extensive discography, I'm surprised I saw him up on a stage playing Jazz several times, with the last time most likely being the only time I managed to see Jimmy Smith live. His obituary almost glosses over his Jazz credentials to focus on his hits with Michael Jackson. https://variety.com/2025/music/news/phil-upchurch-dead-guitarist-composer-1236599436

The advance files that I received to review labeled “Old Folks” as “I Didn’t Know What Time It Was.” I informed the label, which hadn’t printed the sleeve yet. Unfortunately, the liner notes mention the incorrect title, so I am unsure if a song was substituted late or the writer didn’t recognize the mislabeled song.
