  1. Past hour
  2. Prestige All Stars! Very nice blowing. I think of this when someone asks if flute ever fits in jazz past 1950. Two songs composed by Mobley, one by Burrell, one by Waldron.
  3. Today
  4. I didn't think a whole new thread was needed for this news but Berger just died. RIP. ECM should reissue this'n https://www.gp.se/kultur-noje/noje-kultur/musikern-bengt-berger-ar-dod-.703326d5-1227-5481-9647-0b253f7ada8f
  5. Yes. One of McPartland's best albums, I think.
  6. I second that recommendation. The Vanguard sets are incredibly amazing sets. Great music all around. Especially the Piano set with Mel Powell. As good as Peterson is, Powell is hard to beat.
  7. Agreed, my copy is pretty beat-up though but it's a type of music that can handle it...
  8. Found that LP earlier this year, a real surprise and a nice one, too
  9. Tony Bevan, Damon Smith and Scott R. Looney – The Sale Of Tickets For Money Was Abolished
  10. I know what you mean about BN. There's so much other music to listen to, and many of us have fully digested a lot of the catalog. It is a good record, though.
  11. 👍👍
  12. Herman is Sold. Happy to mail out the Drummond CD to anyone who's interested.
  13. Finally arriving Monday.
  14. Found my Conn. copy, playing now, nice!!
  15. Unfortunately yes. I am considering right now making up my own "period-correct facsimile" album cover of Donald Byrd's "Long Green" (which has another of those humdrum Arista-era covers) by using a heavily enlarged photocopy of the original "Byrd's Word" front and back covers from the Denon CD reissue. It's not going to be sepia like the original but at least I'd be able to pull the LP out of an at least somewhat more fitting LP whenever I feel like spinning it.
  16. These covers are typical of when Arista owned the label.
  17. The Marian McPartland Trio – Ambiance First listen to this. A real surprise.
  18. Too bad they made only a couple of records.
  19. I once had a Japanese LP of the Blue Note but sold it when the Conoisseur CD was isued, which I never bought it seems. The whole album is on YouTube, I am listening to it right now. Burrell is always great, Jenkins has a nice sound, much nicer than McLean, I like the Parkerisms in his playing. Just thinking out loud. It seems my days of continuous Blue Note listening are over. But it is a very nice album.
