  5. I am a huge fan of Horace Silver. In 1984, he played at the Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, with Brian Lynch on trumpet and Ralph Moore on tenor saxophone. I heard four sets on a Friday and Saturday night and was blown away by the intensity of the performance. He returned a year later in 1985 with a similar group. Once again, I attended four sets over two nights. The first night was good, but not on the same level as the prior year. I decided to come again anyway, and the first set was the same. Did I imagine how great the music was the last year? For the last set, he announced he was heading to Japan with the group after this engagement, and for the final set the intensity of the prior year returned, as he played songs from the Tokyo Blues. It was awesome. My final live experience was two years later, but this time I was traveling out of town and was only able to hear one set on a Thursday night. This time his group focused on vocals and featured Andy Bey, and (to my tastes), the set was a disappointment. With regard to the new Horace Silver release, so far I have only listened on computer speakers, however, the sound is perfectly fine. The performance is excellent. Joe Henderson is on fire. Really good. The highlights for me are the outstanding alternative version of Song for My Father, and of Sayonara Blues. This is a highly worthwhile release.
  6. worth the price of admission for just the gonzo take on "Sippin' at Bells" alone
  7. Wow, great stuff, just listening to Caddy for Daddy.
  8. Thoughts! Terrific play list! Thoughts on the Alice Coltrane! I need to listen to this. Whatever happened, I hope you and your family are okay... Album jacket always made me uncomfortable, but my opinion, their best record

  11. A sort of reissue of a release, yes. Discussion here begins:
  12. Is it my imagination, or is this a new re-issue? https://milesdavisstore.com/products/the-complete-plugged-nickel-live-1965-8-cd-box-set
  13. A friend of mine uses it in edible form to find relief from neuropathy in his feet. It is the only medication that helps, and his doctors approve. Cannabis has a long tradition in medical treatment. You always have to consider individual responses and multiple effexts.
  14. Being Catholic too, I totally relate! "Catholic churches were dark & somber in general, so it makes sense that I'd think that about the organ playing." My parents being devout Catholics allowed me after my confirmation to attend church by myself (lols) because I didn't, but the the funny thing is when I actually did go, and they started that tithing BS mid-mass, with somebody playing that hoaky organ music (hoaky church, not hoaky rolling rink) they would hold that basket on that 20 foot-long arm (I swear that pole was as long as a football field!) rattling that basket in front of me for what seem like hours, I was like, can I help you? I'm like, this is my 7-11 money!
  15. Exactly what I need to do: I need to live with this set. Earlier in my listening life, I would've chucked this, but as I get older, I live with it, because as JSngry said, Ike is a baaadaaass man, and he is! So I'm hoping this set grows on me over more listens. PS I really like everything else, and I really love Ike's tone, I just have to get past that hoaky-ass sounding organ!
  16. Harold Danko, solo piano - This isn´t Maybe: A Tribute to Chet Baker (Steeplechase)

  18. October 26 Eddie Henderson - 1940 - 85 today! Saw him with „The Leaders“, „The Cookers“, Benny Golson's Group „We Remember Clifford“
  19. I would guess that some of the medical problems being mentioned (especially heart rate and blood pressure) might be related to SMOKING weed. I've never heard any reports along these lines about edibles, particularly if they're low dose. And if you buy them in a reputable store - not from a rando dealer.
  20. For those of you who love Woody's Berliner Jazztage album, I hope you grabbed Mosaic's "Woody Shaw: The Complete Muse Sessions" box before it sold out.
