  3. My wife and I are proud to present Fred Hersch in concert on Tuesday, April 21st at 7:30 pm EDT. This concert is a benefit for my station, WUTC-FM, where a I served as development director from 1989 to 2015. If you know of anyone living close to Chattanooga (Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta and Huntsville are all close enough to make the drive), please let them know about the concert. Fred Hersch has played in the Atlanta area a few times but this is his first appearance in Chattanooga. https://calendar.utc.edu/event/fred-hersch?utm_campaign=widget&utm_medium=widget&utm_source=University+of+Tennessee+at+Chattanooga&_gl=1*1m0gudx*_gcl_au*MjA2ODMzMzg5NC4xNzY3NzM1MzE0
  4. I finally found this long out of print gem on ebay at a reasonable price. Still searching for Volume 2.

  10. Re Benny Carter live and well in Japan on Pablo Have 2 more which you might like - a vinyl from the japanese AUREX Festival with the title you did mention above. LP title" Gentlemen of Swing" and one on the Pablo label again with 'Lockjaw' Davis
  11. Rich Perry - Mood (Steeplechase) Have been returning to this marvellous quartet album countless times. And it won´t end. A dream team with the fabulous Harold Danko at the keys. Probably Perry´s masterpiece.
  12. Pepper Adams (bari), Richie Kamuca (ten), Jerry Coker (ten), Ed Leddy (tpt), Johnny Marabuto (p), Dean Reilly (b), Mel Lewis (d). 1956 San Francisco
  13. Some cumbia: the classic "Elsa" (for those who are tired of the Fania roster)
  14. Much as I hate the Dodgers and their limitless supply of dollars, Tucker to them leaves a nice domino to fall: Bidding war for Bellinger leaves Yankees out of the running or in a major over pay especially on the years. I would have liked to see the Sox go after Bichette but after Toronto's efforts to get Tucker to sign I have little doubt the Jays will bring him back now. The Sox probably have no more signings left but they do have pitching and outfield depth to swing a deal for a 3B or a 2B. But Tucker neither in NY or Toronto is a big deal for all the teams in the AL East.
  15. Fred Hersch Trio “Live in Europe” Palmetto cd
  16. I woke up relieved to see there was no snow overnight, none since early evening. . . after receiving a total of 16" in the previoius 24 hours. We are expecting more this afternoon and evening though, so shoveling is still in my immediate future! It’s cold right now, 13 degrees. Starting the day off with Jerry Garcia “Live at the Warwick,” disc 2. 1991 is not my favorite period for Jerry, but there is some great performances in this set, especially keyboard work.
  17. Like Paul Chambers (love him now)! Elvin Jones' style took like a decade for me to appreciate his drumming. Love it now: brash, bombastic, yet can be soft and timbered. Wow! Still digging this exquisite set:
  18. I would like to return to the question of possible musical encounters between Don and Cecil. To my knowledge, no documented evidence confirms that they ever played together — although it seems quite plausible that they did. For this reason, I would be grateful for any information of the following kind: Henry Grimes (or any other musician, enthusiast, or collector) once mentioned that Don and Taylor played together… I hope my question is sufficiently clear, and that readers understand the spirit of what I am asking. I should also mention that I have already written about this topic in the past and received some helpful replies. However, now that I believe I understand better how our forum works, I would like to gather everything in a single thread — and, from now on, to keep each topic unified in its own place.
