  2. Besides theBlue Notes this is my favourite: This trio rocks!
  3. Richard Beirach: Elm. ECM Records ECM 1142 [Germany 1979]
  4. Today
  5. Ted Nash and his nephew Ted Nash, apparently. Who knew.
  6. Up for renewed interest. The cover painting was done by one Don Stivers. He painted another jazz album coverβ€”The Montgomery Brothers In Canada.
  7. The fate of a particularly rhythmically-challanged drummer? A cliche-ridden sax player? A pianist too busy on his comping? A bass player taking overly-long solos?
  8. Next up: Sibelius: Violin Concerto
  9. Late

    Archie Shepp

I've never really enjoyed covers of "Giant Steps." This one is an exception. πŸ’£πŸ’₯ Keep the YouTube playlist rolling, and the next track is "South Africa Goddamn." Shepp quotes Coltrane's "Alabama" in fragments, but the allusion seems to play throughout the entire 20 minutes.
  10. LOL! With that many hours of jazz every day, I could see passengers start to throw jazz musicians overboard after a while!πŸ˜…
  11. This is one of my favorite piano trio albums.
  12. I liked him in Don Pullen's Afro Brazilian Connection and the only time I saw Don Cherry live, he was on saxophone with Ed Blackwell at the Village Vanguard. That was two great sets of music. Sad news.
  13. I know I'll enjoy it. The big ass storm has stopped. We seem to have a few day respite against us.
  14. I’m at the Fort Lauderdale airport on my way home. It was really good. If anything, it was just a bit too much Jazz. Going to gigs from 9:00 AM to midnight for 7 straight days is more live jazz than I’ve ever seen at any other point in my life. Even Newport is only 3 days. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ Also, I have to admit, some of these cruise people, especially some of the older women, can be assholes. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
  15. Martinu, Complete Piano Works Emil Leichner (piano) (Supraphon)
  16. R.I.P. Carlos Ward Yeah, I noticed that when I was grabbing the image from Discogs. Very odd.
  17. Have the Japanese pressing which, surprisingly, contains less music!
  18. Venue says it's the group with Taborn & Potter. πŸ‘
