  9. Neal Hefti, Quincy Jones, Billy Byers, Chico OFarrell. I actually like the Verve Beatles album. Pretty ingenious treatments. But if you don't have a feel for big bands, it might pass you by. No harm, no foul. ,
  10. Schumann - Violin Sonata No.1 Schubert - Piano Sonata D.959
  11. Pretty slim pickings on Verve following the Roulette stint. Certainly not looking for his Beatles album, James Bond set, Arthur Prysock album, etc. There is some Neal Hefti, at least 'On My Way & Shoutin' Again'.
  12. Riccardo Muti - The Complete Warner Symphonic Recordings, disc 78.
  13. Who were the arrangers during this period? Any Neal Hefti? I know Sammy Nestico is on Basie Straight Ahead, which is on Dot, granted. And Oliver Nelson arranged an album on Flying Dutchman that has a few standout tracks.
  14. What a band! Alto Saxophone – Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson Bass – Ray Brown Drums – Lawrence Marable Piano – Art Hillery Producer – Norman Granz Tenor Saxophone – Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis Trumpet – Harry “Sweets” Edison* Vibraphone – Milt Jackson Milt Jackson “Night Mist” Pablo/OJC cd 599×606 118 KB
  15. Seven years later, any thoughts about one more Basie Verve det?
  16. Had a fun dinner outing with in-laws from NYC and Austin last night. Was up later than usual! It’s hot this morning. Sigh. But I’m toughing it out to listen to some music.
