  1. I think I joined in early September 2003, after lurking here for months. I was active on the All About Jazz forums at the time, and when suddenly a lot of new members showed up who seemed knowledgeable about jazz were also discussing this new board, I eventually joined here since there the discussions here were so much more lively and informative than at AAJ. I did manage to meet Jim and the band, Chuck and the guy who used to be named connoisseurseries500 (Paul, maybe?) at one of their shows in Ann Arbor, which was a lot of fun! I have very little time for any forum anymore, and I can't find much time at all to listen to music as much as I used to. I do try to check in here at least once or twice a week though
  2. well, it was recorded in the days just before Christmas, so it makes sense that way too
  3. i was so close! 3 points off
  4. Saskatchewan, total of 45 points
  5. oh no, this is terrible news! I only got to see him once, with the Keith Jarrett and Gary Peacock trio. I remember how loud and powerful he sounded at times, but never overwhelming the piano.
  6. I would mostly agree with him about this, but also nominate the ProjeKcts-2000 edition of Crimson. Different kind of music, but the improvisation was as good as anything I ever heard by any other edition of King Crimson.
  7. this is great news! I'd prefer a CD box set but I'll buy it regardless
  8. And the book of transcribed Joe Henderson solos arrived today! Awesome gifts, thanks again GA!
  9. I received part of the prize today, a Michael Weiss CD, and a 4-disc set of Roland Kirk. I don't really know either artist's music at all so this seems like a great introduction! Thanks again for the contest and prize!
  10. Cool! I really wanted to pick Winnipeg since most Toronto teams make my stomach turn, but nice to see they came through for me this one time! Yep, my first win, I think I've participated in this every year you've offered it, so this is nice. See you next year!
  11. looks like I'll have to go with Toronto, 60!
  12. This looks great. Should I care how many "GRAMMY" awards the production team has?
  13. fantastic news!!
  14. Good version of Kind of Bird
