My friends Sparrow and Joanie produced a dandy cd titled FIRE with Von Freeman. This is a great opportunity to hear Von in a new context for most of you. He plays great and the context gives hint of the "greater Von". Many other fine Chicago musicians available in the Southport catalog. Check it out.

Saw his show at the Chicago Jazz Festival a couple of weeks ago. It was good but not great. His guests were Marc Ribot and Don Byron. The audience loved it as the finale of the fest. I have much fonder memories of a show at "the Top of the Gate" around 1980. The guests that night were Fathead Newman and Doctor John - dang!
