  1. I think they reviewed all the lps. Only one snarky review, most of them 4 stars or above. I have copies of all the reviews and need to get them scanned. They also did a feature review of the Art Ensemble box in 1993 and then it stopped.
  2. Let it go. I did not come from "outside".
  3. Not sure what this really means beyond making me smile. That has to be good enough.
  4. What were Lester's and Roscoe's reactions? We all looked at each other and went away. Not an unusual reaction in the '60s.
  5. Everyone needs to get a drink, sit down and relax.
  6. We can supply that but it will not be inexpensive.
  7. The Morgan/Tyner date was done to be mixed with 3 tracks from the Slice of the Top session to make BN 4241 (not issued).
  8. When it was new many of us got it in the $10-25 range. I see I got it for $14.89 delivered in July 2008.
  9. On vinyl, yes - but for the first of the CD releases of these sessions on Blue Note Michael Cuscuna already kept the sessions intact. I always thought they sounded great in session order. Can somebody remind me how these were released on CD the first time around. Were all 4(?) sessions released on four CD's? Or, rather, how many separate sessions were there? - and did each one see a separate CD issue back during the McMaster era? The only one I still have is the "No Room for Squares" with the complete session that Andrew Hill is on -- but in retrospect, I kinda wish I had all of the 'session'-centric issues of this material. No Room For Squares - Morgan/Hill - 8 tracks The Turnaround - Hubbard/Harris - 6 tracks Straight No Filter - Byrd/Hancock - 6 tracks PLUS Morgan/Tyner - 3 tracks
  10. What you might want to consider is having the Mbari cover on the inside fold of the cd cover so that one could "fold" the cover inside out and have the Mbari cover showing instead of the Arista/Freedom cover. I did that with a Monk reissue on Columbia. Done and gone. Buy a copy and check it out. The disc sounds fantastic.
  11. I am pretty sure all the stuff by ST has made it to US cds.
  12. Hope it was a lucrative gig.
  13. Interested parties can hear a sample of the original mix here.
  14. FWIW, this took place at Aaron Russo's Electric Theater (if that was the name at the time - it kept changing). IIRC the Mothers were alternating sets with Canned Heat.
  15. Really sort of crazy. They have ignored me for about 30 years (no reviews at all) until this year. First a short piece about my issues a couple of months back lumping together short reviews of 5 of my releases and now this. It seems someone sitting on a cloud looked down and gave the ok.
  16. I had been contacted by Elizabeth van der Mei. Elizabeth was an early person promoting the "new thing" in NY. She wrote reports for some magazines and worked at ESP for a while. At some point she moved to California to work with Tom Wilson (Transition Records, electric Dylan, etc) who was now producing/managing Zappa and the Mothers. She thought the meeting of the AACM and Zappa might produce some positive results. I wasn't sure but she pushed me forward.

  18. Happy to see this exchange at the top of a new page.
  19. GoodSpeak is out of his friggin' mind.
  20. Why would you spend money for an Adam Sandler film? If you want some cheap thrill crap, wait for it. You can see it for nothing eventually and not give him money.
  21. Hmmm.... In late 1967 or early 1968 when the Mothers were first breaking on the scene, someone in the Zappa management team, working for Tom Wilson suggested I take Lester Bowie and Roscoe Mitchell to meet Frank when they came to town for a gig. It took a bit of convincing to get them to drive to the North side for this meeting. Frank came out from the dressing room and dismissed me as a white guy exploiting black artists and dismissed Lester and Roscoe because they were my n...ers. I have never been able to take him seriously or listen to his music. He was an ASSHOLE of the first order.
