So all you folks think "nuts" is a negative thing? -
I don't know about "sound," but I always felt like the only quality (musically) LP in that set was the Murray/Roscoe split. My take too. The sound is/was problematic. In the notes for the cd version (dubbed from lps to my ears) the original recording engineer (Ron Saint Germain) decries the conditions and recording "on the fly" situation. I have some experience with the circumstances via my work on the Charles Tyler program. Tyler's set was too long to be included in the Wildflowers program and as per label/artist agreements, the master of unused material was turned over to the artists. Charles made a deal with me and I received 2 different stereo mixes and the original 8 channel recording. I did not like the two mixes and flew Charles to Chicago to work on the 8 tracks. I was also disappointed with this work and eventually met Charles at Rudy Van Gelder's studio and went through it again. Rudy made a huge improvement in the sound because he sorted out all the mike bleeds and found what worked. We wound up with real stereo drums but the best sounding version of the music.

There is only one piece on For Four Orchestras, Comp. 82. Do they sequence the music as it was laid out on lp or do they recreate it as originally intended? If you're asking whether the half-hour of material that was removed for the LPs has been restored, it doesn't appear so: the total duration of the two CDs (113' 30") is within the margin of error of the six LP sides (114' 30"). Not that. I was talking about the sequence of the lp sides. There was an error in manufacturing the records.

I might have misunderstood. Joe, not Jim? My error. edit to say my info was transferred via her mother. Most white guys look alike to her. -

Carla, our daughter was there too and said it was a great show. She said she saw Kart and Tesser, went at the break to greet them and you/they were gone. She said Jim stopped by and said "Hi". -

The engagement Michael and I were referring to was in a relatively small place. It was loud. -

Cuscuna sold one of my Art Ensemble lps for $211(Les Stances a Sophie)! Wonder what I could get for a sealed, first pressing of People in Sorrow found at my parent's house?

Many, many more young fella. We need your memories and memorabilia if nothing else. Keep working on that book. I'm sure you will be done by the deadline! -
Having listened the Schnabel Beethoven material for over 40 years (RCA lps, Angel COLH box, various cd reissues and even a few original 78's) I think the Pearl reissues do reveal more details. I also think the eq diddling used to reveal the details have raised the groove noise to an unacceptable level. For me the noise detracts from the music unless I concentrate very carefully. If you have the interest and time to invest, the Pearls are interesting. I just don't want anyone to ignore other recordings of the music if they can't afford the Pearls. I usually reach for the Dante box when I want to hear this stuff. I have not heard the Naxos reissues but can't believe Obert-Thorne did anything but a decent job.

That was at least 10 years ago and he was beat to the market. Years of research down the drain. Could be a tough recovery. -
Yes. After the issue of the Uptown collection I was contacted and thanked by Denise McCluggage (search her name). When I told her I remembered a piece she published about driving a Ferrari with Miles and Allen she sent a copy of one of her books with that story included. She was kind enough to inscribe the title page. Mr Lowe continues to miss the beauties of the Boston session with Twardzik. His loss.
