  1. Anyone know the answer to this question? It has puzzled me for some time. which dates are you talking about?
  2. I DO NOT believe supply and demand is driving the prices up. I believe it is the "traders" much like the Enron crap. Did anyone watch the congressional hearings? 65% of the oil is bought by folks unable to take delivery!!!!! "Fuck the world, make a buck" is the mantra.
  3. Sounds like some kind of compensation to me.
  4. He didn't play "Summertime"? Jimmy Smith told me that was "Lou's song".
  5. The four Ping sides.
  6. I agree with Bruce - the cast is stellar but the result is less than the sum of the parts. Nice, that's all is my opinion after XX years with it.
  7. I think MG meant "marketable vs relatively unknown" names.
  8. Yes, I can identify KB's playing. I just don't think it is very interesting (for me) beyond his technical skills.
  9. You chose to ignore "relatively" and I stand by that. Farlow, Raney, Crawford, Green, etc are much more distinctive "stylists" in my book.
  10. Burrell, Flanagan, Hank Jones and a bunch of others were relatively "faceless" players of high quality emerging from Detroit at the time. They never mess anything up but never inspire greatness. YMMV.
  11. Post Granz. This stuff happened after MGM bought the company. I knew one of the execs of MGM at the time and it ain't pretty.
  12. To a large extent Granz recorded folks he booked on tours, JATP and otherwise.
  13. My relationhip with Uptown is ending and I am not a source of current information.
  14. I have smoked since I was about 20. A few years ago (4?) my doctor gave me a scrip for Wellbutrin to help. I reacted by contracting shingles and went blind in my left eye. A wonderful eye surgeon brought my sight back via steroids. I would like to try something else but do not want to go blind again.
  15. Swim like hell, bike like hell and run like hell. Then survive. Eat food later.
  16. I remember a Jarman performance at Ida Noyes Hall at the U. of Chicago in maybe 1966-67 where he wrapped several female dancers in large sheets of aluminum foil. Saw a similar performance at the Abraham Lincoln Center around the same time.
  17. Looks like Pee Wee Herman's dad.
  18. The dropout first appeared on the initial Japanese cd and popped up again in the recent Concord RVG. It was fixed for issues between these two. Safeties provided the patch.
  19. Ten of twenty. I was fooled by some pictures of "recent" versions of bars that looked different in olden times.
  20. All the best young man.
  21. Me too. Sorry to be so late.
  22. Usually, but it depended on the player - just like today.
  23. The recordings were made to match the playback equipment and sounded fine, back in the day. Many current cd transfers are only pale reflections of the originals.
