Not a reason most would expect. My friend SEK (Steve Kaufman) finally died of a nasty form of brain cancer about 18 months ago. He had fought it for years. Great guy with interesting tastes. I would say GG was a great pianist/performer but not a great Bach (or any other composer) interpreter. You should take his recordings as really bright excursions. No "dis" meant.

Since the BYG reissues, vinyl or cd, are needle drops I guarantee they are digital transfers. The masters have "gone missing" and digital is the only way to tweak them. Digital programs have much more flexible editing possibilities than analog. Why trust current vinyl?
