  1. Brings me back to the Red Sox seasons of '73 and '74. Mid afternoon I'd jump on a train and two stops from my office I'd be at Fenway. Bleachers were $2 and you could drink beer.
  2. I saw Jesse White in a restaurant in Santa Barbara in 1967. He fixed my Maytag once.
  3. Didn't mean to infer you did. I was still responding to Paul's post.
  4. That's fine if you don't whine about the "competition".
  5. That's an unfair statement, though. You're never going to do better than Diz and Bird or Trane and Monk. You can only do different, and maybe you'll be lucky enough to do different at their level. But, by definition, you can't do better than the best. And here is the real problem. Do you think Pops, Duke, Bird, Diz, Ornette, etc ever thought "You're never going to do it better? What you can do is "become the best"! If that is not your goal, I'll keep that in mind.
  6. So, is Allen running away?
  7. In a big way, the Columbia deal was the worst thing that could happen to him. Unlimited time, lots of spare cash and a bunch of folks running around trying to keep him happy.
  8. It was reissued at one time by Fresh Sounds. Isn't that amazing?
  9. Time for all concerned to take a pill, and stop being one. I knew Art Pepper and Dexter Gordon.
  10. I'm getting really tired of waiting. Shut the damn thing down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Are you really that fast, or did you have that "at the ready"?
  12. What is that, irritable vowel syndrome?
  13. Sorry to be late to the party. All the best to Nate, Jane and Anne.
  14. So, make something better. I'm sure we'd all follow.
  15. I was in the midst of preparing a brilliant message about the future of music and the music business. I was going to post it on this forum, but since you seem to deny me the access, FY!
  16. So now the Aggies are the Bulldogs?
  17. This was from late July 1970. Dexter was in Chicago to play with Jug and Byas for a Joe Segal event. The Gordon/Ammons portions were recorded for Prestige. I helped with the sessions. I was not involved with the TV shows made that week and was not in the studio.
  18. I was referring to the quote above in my previous post. Like Nate, I have Maelstrom on an Inner City LP. I always assumed the lousy sound was because of the sources of the original recordings: private tapes, radio broadcasts, etc. Never heard the Inner City but don't think it would sound much different than the EastWind original, which I do have.
  19. Just to be clear, nothing on "Descent into the Maelstrom" was issued on Atlantic or Mosaic.
