I think everyone has stated Hanks "station" in the BN stable. I'm sure he "paid for himself" but not a bunch more. Blakey and Smith might not have been recording for Alfred after '64 but they still had a regular stream of new releases coming from the vault.

I certainly hope they duplicated the original tape work. It should be issued as Gil wanted it to be heard.

Tis my understanding the tapes were never lost. The massive number of edits to create the mono masters was (previously) impossible to recreate in stereo. At the very least, it would be a huge pain in the ass. Current digital techniques made the stereo version possible.

That might be the reason I never bought it. MA always seemed to be the "fall back" guy to hire for charts on a record date in the late '50s 'cause he'd deliver the goods on time. Always seemed "generic" to me. He may be a smart guy, but his name never made me buy a record and stopped me in a couple of cases.

To my knowledge, ECM used 3 pressing plants in the US at different times. The earliest ones were crappy. Later they used both Columbia and Wakefield. There might be other variants, but this is what I remember. The later pressings were fine, with a nod to the Wakefields. If you are worried, stick with the European/Polydor pressed records.

No, when I was head of the fest committee and Monk was alive, I planned a Monk program to do this (with Monk in the audience - since he was not in emotional shape to play) but TM died as did my plans - didn't want to seem to be "cashing in". A few years later Art Lange took over the project and the band. He consulted with Don Sickler and put together a dandy outfit. The band included Rouse, Phil Woods, Eddie Bert, Steve Lacy, Ben Riley, etc. I'll have to back to the tapes to get all the names.

After the catch, be sure to clean all the cheeze out of the stomach. If they are small enough deep frying is great. If they are larger you gotta get out the skillet. MMMMMMMMMMMMM. B-)

I think they are simply incompetent on any number of levels. No reason to risk a cent.
