Funniest Thing You Ever Heard A Drunk Say
Chuck Nessa replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
About 23 years ago a drunk (in his 50s, business suit, "friend of musicians" approached me in Joe Segal's place. Since I was a "record company" he saw me as an enemy of musicians - this is a life hazard for us in the biz. So...his point of attack was directed to my "manhood". He said "Have you fathered any children"! I said I had a son and a daughter. He said "One of each, how nice for you". I asked about his offspring and he proudly exclaimed "FOUR". I asked "One of each?" and after a blank look and a few seconds, he took a swing at me. -
Anyone know who these old musicians are?

I don't think I've done anything there to upset anyone. I save that for here. B-) Would someone with access give my answer to the guy. -

I tried posting to the thread but received the following message: Chuck Nessa, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: 1.Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? 2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Anyway, I was going to suggest Jimmy Harris. He played trumpet in the Erskine Hawkins band from the mid '40s 'til near the end. -
OK.

I have/had 25+ years experience pressing lps and making master discs that "could be played". I've done work for both classical ("audiophile") and jazz labels. You don't have a clue about this stuff. You have previously said you could not take any of my comments about Rudy seriously since I'd worked with him. I guess it is always best to reject information from "first hand experience". If you wanna remain "stupid", it's not my problem. I do not believe RVG is faultless and have plenty of "quibbles" but you look silly to anyone with real experience. Once again, I ask your age (and please add experience).

Wolfie, I think it must be really hard to breath with your head there. This is coming from someone listening to this stuff for 45+ years. I've been listening to an unmentionable number of pressings/formats. How old are you? I'm editing to mention how poor many of the '70s pressiings were.

Wes, Mastersounds, MJQ. Boy, there is a musical powerhouse. I can't stand the implications.

Sears brings Craftsman and Kenmore to the table. Very fine reps and better than OK products. K-Mart has the Martha line. Do not laugh. The food related products like pots and pans are absolutely first rate. Some smart cookie could take advantage of this and become a hardware monster. We buy yogurt from Wally. They are the only local source for Blue Bunny "sugar free" and between the the two of us we eat about 20 a week. That is it! The us (couldn't push down the cap key) is moving away from much I love, but might become a country I admire. If we become "crippled" by our greed, we might be fine.

Guess I'm mellowing in my old age. B-) Or I'm just too tired.

I'm really worried about Jim R. I mean he's seeing shimmering posts. Is this the result of too many porno site visits? -

Shit, I wanted it to reset to zero! -
FWIW, Certain Blacks was not recorded as an Art Ensemble project - they were sidemen. They were pissed when it came out under their name.

The sound is still not what it should have been, but the cd is better. Getz recorded this on his own and delivered the tapes to Columbia, which probably explains the delay in putting this stuff out. Columbia has this band "live" somewhere in the vaults. I asked Stan why these recordings hadn't been issued and he said "Ask them".

33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli
Chuck Nessa replied to Guy Berger's topic in Recommendations
My all time "champ" is the '30s recording by Schnabel. For a modern stereo version I recommend the Charles Rosen version on IMP (from England). This was available from Cybermusicsurplus for cheap. Maybe elsewhere. -
Yes, Roscoe played the lp for me when they returned (from Europe), I received a cassette, and now own a copy of the boot cd. edit to insert "from europe".
-
I have, and it is a VERY good one. I think I posted about this before. I have not heard the most recent Pi disc but think the previous one is "good for fans". I'd hate it if this was someone's introduction to the band. Buy around a dozen cds first.

LF: A Baystate Discography (and/or general info)
Chuck Nessa replied to JSngry's topic in Discography
Some of the Timeless/Baystate titles might have originated with the Dutchman, but I think the bulk are of Japanese origin. -
Ubu's cover is correct. This is the BN cd for the combined lps. The cover you posted is the dreaded Applause item.
