  1. Sure I will forget a bunch but here goes - Ellington, Basie, Maynard, Herman, Kenton, Jacquet, Ra, Mulligan, Toshiko/Tabakin, Gil, George Russell, Hampton, AACM, Machito AND (bands we assembled for the Chicago fest) Benny Carter, Benny Goodman, Roy Eldridge, Earl Hines and a wonderful Monk BB with Mal Waldron on piano. Some of these I heard a number of times - Ellington around 20 times.
  2. If you want to be really greedy, go to the home page and copy the promo code for $1 off each cd.
  3. Runt owns Water along with a couple other labels. The link with BN is through Patrick Roques.
  4. I think he got the "award" for his work "on the scene" together with his "trust fund baby" friend John. AND I think he repaid the debt by further works.
  5. My current experience with the site is (using the above link) and (not logging in): It says 5.99 per disc, though I'm a 4.99 member and my "music queue" is correct AND the Miles box is listed at my (cheaper) price - 14.97. I don't need it, just wanted to check. Just a word to the wise.
  6. Geez, I though someone had discovered the rumored Albert Ayler/Julie Budd tapes.
  7. the confusion is the result of the original designations of these lps: 1512 A New Sound - A New Star 1514 The Champ 1525 At the Organ Vol 3 A curious choice since all + was/were issued in a 1997 double.
  8. The real answer is they don't think they can sell enough to make the time/money pay off. Real simple. It is a business when all is said and done.
  9. How's Bird keep that beret on? Duct tape. If he ran out of that, he used something called smack.
  10. You be correct. I think (hope) KB added 1 and 2 to come up with 3. Nice double.
  11. Could it be Mr Eicher does not know about baking tapes? I did explain this to another label owner a few years ago to keep him from "trashing" a bunch of masters.
  12. Has anyone compared the JRVG to the Mosaic mastering? I had the TOCJ and ditched it after I compared it to the Mosaic, but might be willing to purchase this fine session again if the mastering is that great. Never heard the Mosaic but the JRVG is very fine. It is playing now in the Nessa basement. Edit to return and say how FINE Elvin sounds on this.
  13. Larry, I too think KV is a modest player but think he's a good (and active) organizer. This shows up in his performances/recordings where many worthy musicians are "showcased" in a way they would not be without his work.
  14. I have no idea what happened.
  15. They were talking about the same situation in Chicago this morning on WGN.
  16. I got mine from BMG back awhile. In fact that's how I got all the Miles boxes.
  17. No time to sort it all out now, but I think you missed some stuff in the early '80s. Maybe that will suffice after all. Time for bed.
  18. The father of the "white, northside scene" was Hal Russell, not Ken or his friend John Corbett.
  19. Jazz artists do not care how old you are if you pay the cover, have a couple of drinks and buy the cd. B-)
  20. Let me add a big "thank you" for sharing a very personal moment. All wishes to the mom.
  21. The string of lights above Jim's head looks like a couple of breasts hanging down from above. Maybe? Wes, you've been up too late... Wes obviously has a fixation and it is probably keeping him up.
  22. OUTSTANDING!! All the best. I'm curious about the name too. Milo is my father's name, was the name of another farmer down the road and was the name of the guy at the TV shop in town. So, I grew up around 3 Milos but never encountered another in my life. Though I did meet a cat with that name.
