Cubs have been my team since the late '50s and the Red Sox have been the only AL team I've cared about since the early '70s when I drank untold quantities of beer in the Fenway bleachers. Let me dream a few days.

Hey, soon enough Eric was grooving on the Butthole Surfers or some such group.

This thread is inspired by AfricaBrass's posting in the Verve Elite thread about the therapeutic qualities of the Konitz set. Our kids Eric (now 33) and Carla (29) grew up with musicians all around. Malachi Favors, Bud Freeman, Charles Tyler, Hal Russell, Roscoe, etc. were around the house while they were young. They also attended recording sessions. When Carla was in college she took a "Jazz History" class and was assigned a paper on a "musician of choice" (pending the instructor's approval). She chose Roscoe Mitchell and the prof agreed. She called me and asked if I'd mind if she contacted Roscoe for an interview. I said fine and her teacher was amazed by the "primary source" of her paper. I am still touched by an experience with Eric early in his life. While still a toddler, late at night he wandered out of his room to ask what I was playing. It was a Gato Barbieri lp called Under Fire. He asked to see the cover. Then he went back to bed without comment. A few months later the scene was repeated and he asked what I was playing - it was a Charlie Parker Spotlight lp. He asked to see the cover, asked if I knew him and I told him he died before I could meet him. Eric said "then I can never meet him", jumped off the sofa and cried for about an hour before he was exhausted and fell asleep. About 6 months passed, I was listening to a Johnny Hodges Verve lp, Eric was at my feet asking the usual questions. I said I'd met Hodges, but he'd died. He snuggled closer to me with tears welling in his eyes and said "Easy come, easy go". For members old enough, there must be a bunch of funny or "heart warming" stories.

But that can't be a Grandassa model! -
And it MAY be issued before the operation folds. B)

It was Don Martin. He did a few Prestige covers in the mid '50s.

Homemade covers for LP's that MIGHT've been on BN
Chuck Nessa replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Twenty some years ago Ann and I made a fake BN cover for our Fred Anderson recording, inspired by Lauren Deutsch's photo. We had to set the type by hand. -
Why do you have to make a choice? Enjoy both for the music they present.

Friday is Talk Like a Pirate Day

My favorite pirate name is Jordi Pujol. He sails on the ship Fresh Sounds but hoists more threatening flags when out of sight. -
It might be an old logo to you, but to me it was a sign of deadly decay.

The spine copy isn't much different from lp spines (which I grew up with), so I don't have a problem - but you might be older and I could understand that. Also, if I find a slim disc in the middle of my Parlan sides, I know it's Headin' South.

This is (deleted, I believe) 2 discs of the Miles/Trane/Kelly/Chambers/Cobb group, and 2 discs from the next tour with Stitt replacing JC. Do you have the French concerts from the same tour? If you do, it is more of the same. I'd grab it if you like Miles and/or Trane and/or Stitt and/or the dandy rhythm section. Then get the 4 French discs. If the Dragon set is back in print, get the French discs first.

34. I store them on the shelf with my other cds.

At the beginning of the '60s James began a series of very fine recordings for MGM. Some were collected in at least one Verve cd. If you like this sort of stuff, check it out.

During Hank's stay in Chicago, I was living in Madison, WI. My friends John Litweiler and Larry Kart kept me abreast of performances I should attend. I managed to hear Mobley twice during this time. One time was with the "working band" mentioned, with Muhal, Rufus, Wilbur and Frank Gordon. If memory does not fail, this was a gig in a church basement on the South Side. The other time was one of Joe Segal's extravaganzas - Jug, Von, Hank and (odd man out) Hank Crawford. Maybe Larry will chime in with more info on those times. Concerning the unissued date(s) Hank mentioned: One is Slice of the Top and I always surmised the themes on Thinking of Home incorporated the film music. I'll forward this thread to Litweiler and see if he chooses to shed any light.
