  1. http://www.treachers.com/pages/1/page1.htm...h=1099162921507 http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0871546/ I haven't had a meal at an Arthur Treacher's in at least 25 years. I do have fond memories, though. Mike
  2. Dorough is wonderful and hugely important, but let's not minimize the work of the others who made great contributions to the show, including Dave Frishberg (who wrote I'm Just A Bill), Lynn Ahrens, and the singers like Grady Tate and Blossom Dearie, among others - full details here: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~varnum/Stor...choolhouse.html Mike
  3. Please see the Kenny Barron discography on my website. Mike
  4. Holy Christ - that tune (correct title is "It All Comes Back To You") is probably my favorite on that record!!!! It's a piece by Onaje Allan Gumbs, medium tempo, kind of leaning towards a rock/latin/gospel straight eighths sound, and I have the solos memorized I've listened to it so much. It's on the Best Of Woody Shaw LP on Columbia too. I am seriously bummed about this. Why not leave it on Stepping Stones and keep Escape Velocity on Woody III and reissue *that* too. Not *thoroughly* satisfied at all. Mike
  5. Bill Saxton is standing in the front row with a hat. http://www.nj.com/greatday/clickableimage.ssf If you click on his face there is some additional info. Mike
  6. What exactly has changed since the revamp of last year (July?) - that was when I stopped using it much at all, so I can't really see any difference from then. Has it gotten even worse than that? Mike
  7. Yes, but it's also on the page I listed - on a cassette tape, performed by "artist unknown" - it's the first tape listed. Mike
  8. My vote on misspelling goes to Bill Connors for the ECM album "Theme To The Gaurdian". http://www.billconnorsguitarist.com/billco...iscography.html Connors insisted to the Germans that he was correct - saying who were they to question his command of the English language?! Ooops. FWIW, Bruyninckx (& Lord) have corrected this to "Guardian". Mike
  9. Not in Bruyninckx - here's the only entry: -Nina Simone sings Ellington- : Nina Simone (vcl,p) acc by big band incl. strings + The Malcolm Dodds Singers (female vcl group) New York, 1963 I got it bad and that ain't good (*) Colpix CP425, Rhino R2-7272 (CD) Do nothin' till you hear from me - Hey, Buddy Bolden - Merry mending - You better know it - I like the sunrise - Solitude (*) - The gal from Joe's - Satin doll - It don't mean a thing (*) - Something to live for - Note : Entire session also on Colpix SCP425, Pye (Jap)XM-139-Y, (Jap)UPS-2032Y. (*) Also on Roulette CDP7.98584-2. Mike I came up with this: http://americanhistory.si.edu/archives/d53016.htm but that's not a whole lot of help.
  10. Not sure I understand the question. Also, how are you doing a "leader search" - I am just searching on the text string "gerald wilson" (look in "Currently Selected Indexes" which is all letters A-Z) and it comes back with the letter W - scroll down to the fifth entry (after Gerald Wilson's appearances with Larry Williams) and there's the Gerald Wilson section (listed under the name Garland Wilson). Are you searching for GERALD WILSON (case sensitive)? Theoretically, that should work as a leader search - but obviously only if the info is correctly entered! Mike
  11. Yup - Garland Wilson; followed by George Wilson & Jimmy Hinton; then Garland Wilson again!!! Mike
  12. Chico San and Samba Yantra are by Chick Corea. I Will Wait For You is by Michel Legrand. The Creeper is by Sonny Red Kyner; The others are by Donald Byrd. Mike
  13. According to Bruyninckx (& Lord), the film version also appears under the title "Sweet Georgia Brown" on Extreme Rarities 1008 (hoping that it's not as much of an extreme rarity as the Bean box). Mike
  14. Try here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...4&hl=collection and http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...wtopic=5888&hl= Mike
  15. I believe Arkadia acquired Postcards. Mike
  16. There are SOOOOO many. How about "You stole my wife, you whore thief you" (should be "horse thief") But why isn't this in the discography forum? Mike
  17. Man, that logic does NOT apply here - note that my first listing shows the 1996 Verve CD issue "Lee Konitz Meets Jimmy Giuffre". That 2-CD set was an EXCELLENT quality legitimate issue. Mike
  18. Oh - I get it - take the whole premise of things and then don't follow it, ergo "Bill Evans with Lee Konitz" *without* Bill Evans. Following up on the second entry I listed: Eddie Bert, Bill Evans out, Jim Hall (g) added New York, October 30, 1959 22965-11 You're clear out of this world Verve MGV8362, (Jap)J28J-25102 [CD] 22966-6 You are too beautiful - - 22967-1 The more I see you - - 22968-5 You're driving me crazy - - , Giants of Jazz (It)CD53182 [CD] Note: Verve MGV8362(mono) = Verve MGVS6131(stereo). All titles from Verve MGV8362 also on Verve (F)230444, (Jap)POCJ-2149 [CD], HMV (E)CLP1406, (E)CSD1331. Mike

  20. Not a request, just a thank you for changing search default to "Any Date" rather than "Past 30 Days" - much easier now! Mike
  21. Amazing what this Internet thing can do. Response back from Dave Holland in a matter of a few hours: ========================= Dear Mike, >1. A Stan Getz CD from Baltimore's Left Bank Jazz Society was issued >in 2000 on Label M ("My Foolish Heart", Label M 5702). Band is Getz, >Beirach, Holland, DeJohnette. It contains an "untitled" tune that >has been suggested to be possibly titled "Vortex" in the Erik Raben >jazz discography ("Jazz Records 1942-1980" Getz section). That is a composition that I wrote around 1971. >2. Also in Raben is mention of a Getz live tape that includes >"Vortex" (Paul's Mall, Boston, December 12, 1972). Same tune >3. Lastly, "Vortex" is a tune on "The Razor's Edge" (ECM 1353). This is a later Steve Coleman composition that has the same title. >Are these in fact all the same tune? If not, >can you identify the tune from the Getz recordings? (The Label M CD >also lists Jack DeJohnette's tune "Compost Festival" incorrectly as >"Fiesta" by Chick Corea. Perhaps some royalty adjustments are in >order.) > >That 25 years separates the Getz and ECM versions isn't discouraging >since "Jacob's Ladder" was in the Getz repertoire and didn't make it >to an issued album until 1989 with Hank Jones. Likewise for "The >Oracle", not issued until 1989 as well. I wrote several songs for Stan which were to be recorded by him. These plans were cancelled after he said he would only record my compositions if they were owned by his publishing company. This was something that I wouldn't agree to. All the best, Dave.
  22. Remember that there were LP sets that LATER got CD-ified. For example, the Mulligan/Baker I have on CD, but it was LP-only at first. NOT every LP-only got this deal, only a selected few. Mike
  23. Could it be Fran Dance/Put Your Little Foot Right Out ? I only know that tune from Miles Davis versions. Mike
  24. The Woods has never been (and probably will never be) available outside of the Mosaic set. See my website for full discographical details of the Don Cherry (in the Henry Grimes discography) and Andrew Hill sets. Mike
  25. I have just emailed Holland. I will report back with any response. Maybe he and DeJohnette can hope for some additional composer royalties? Mike
