  2. I'd really like to pick this one up.... But $17.95 + $6.95 for shipping & handling is a bit steep. Any clue if this will show up in retail stores? Available at the website
  3. Maybe someone should have checked into the licensing fee for Spy vs Spy. Those could have made for some funny commercials.
  4. I've been in a trumpet mood lately and came across Joe Gordon's Lookin' Good!. I have to agree with the positive comments here. I can see this one getting a lot of playing time. I also picked up in the same CDU order:
  5. Forgive me. Apple can do no wrong.
  6. I don't know. But I have some ideas on where to put it.
  7. Oh I almost forgot... Congratulations to Apple computer in their court victory over the Beatles. Take that Paul and Ringo!
  8. I haven't done much apple bashing in a while... But I found an excuse (or two). First, those new commericals with the two guys: "Hi, I'm and Apple." (jeans & t-shirt wearin' guy) "And I'm a PC" (nerdy, Gates look-a-like in a suit) Okay, they're funny, but I kinda feel sorry for the techno-illiterate masses that fall for this crap. It reminds me of those commercials back in the 90's with the dad and the little kid who's whining about wanting to see the dinosaurs and poor old PC-usin' dad is fumbling around with MSCDEX at a DOS prompt.... jeez... c'mon....really? There's no ONE company that would benefit from a counter ad, but I thought it would be funny for some WIN/PC consortium to get together and run one with a dad and son going into a electronics superstore and asking a sales clerk for the new Dinosaurs CD-ROM....dramatic pause....for the MAC. The sales clerk, befuddled asks a co-slackerworker for help finding the MAC software section. Employees, dad, and son walk past row after row after row of PC software until finally stumbling across a small section of a single shelf with MAC version of software... PhotoShop, QuarkXpress....but no Dinosaurs.... poor little Billy your dad should have bought a PC. Okay, now for my other excuse: I just bought an iPod Nano for my wife (what can I say, she likes pretty shiny things and I love her). What's one thing you would expect to be in the box with a product that has a rechargeable battery. Ummm.....maybe....er....A CHARGER?!? You plug it into your computer to charge it stupid! No sh*t I get that. But what about when you are on the road. Everyone takes their computer with them right..... Oh well. You get the point. No need to go into the fact about a product that costs $150/$200/$250 should include a charger whose actual costs to manufacture are about $2. I resigned myself to buying an "accessory." Then I see the $30 price tag. Can anyone who explain that to me and still sing the praises of O-Mighty Apple, the company that really cares about it's consumers - unlike greedy Bill Gates and the Evil Microsoft. At least some of the Apple faithful are starting to realize that Jobs' Kool-Aid doesn't taste as good as they once thought. See reviews at bottom of page (sort them by lowest rated) All that said, guess who's headed back to the store to buy an "accessory" charger for his beautiful wife. What can I say... I her. P.S. I'm still using my Rio Chiba MP3 player and loving it. I feed it a new AAA battery every other week or so (depending on my gym and travel schedule). So there. Edited to fix link to charger reviews
  9. Interesting.... he also "says" that on the back of the Prestige RVG Remasters.

  11. I saw Akeelah and the Bee over the weekend. Cute movie. Predictable, but a good story. During the scene where Akeelah is in Morpheus's Dr. Larabee's office you can see two Blue Note albums framed and hanging on the wall.
  12. For JPG images, your graphics program should offer you some form of compression. Usually these options appear during the SAVE process. Many programs offer a slider control with Image Size at one end and Image Quality at the other. You can usually get away with about a 10% compression or 90% quality without too much distortion. www.irfanview.com offers a pretty decent image viewer/editor.
  13. I guess the retouched cover finally came. I saw a copy at Border's without the text on the cover.
  14. Child abuse takes many forms. The female teacher going after the male student is just the form du jour with the media. <shameless plug> My company oversaw the development of a program to prevent child sexual abuse (mainly within the Catholic Church). It's called VIRTUS. I invite anyone who is interested to take a look. </shameless plug>

  16. Isn't there a Lester Young in D.C. 1956 Vols. 1-5? Might be nice. Then I could take those and the Shelly Manne Blackhawks of my wishlist at CDU.

  18. Paul Simon Returns With "Surprise" Hall of Famer collaborated with Brian Eno on ninth studio album Sixteen-time Grammy winner Paul Simon will release Surprise, his much-anticipated collaboration with producer Brian Eno (Talking Heads, U2), on May 9th. The long-awaited follow-up to Simon's last solo effort, 2000's gold-selling You're the One, was recorded in Eno's London studio, as well as studios in Nashville and New York, and features Herbie Hancock and jazz guitarist Bill Frisell. Among the album's eleven tracks, which feature Simon's trademark intricate acoustic guitar, is the Oscar-nominated "Father and Daughter," off the soundtrack for the animated film The Wild Thornberrys, as well as the song "Outrageous" and the opener "How Can You Live in the Northeast." In 1972, when Simon released his self-titled solo debut, he spoke to Rolling Stone about his personal, hands-on recording process. "It wasn't until my own album that I ever started to think to myself, 'What do I really like?'" he said. "I learned every aspect of it has to be your own judgment. You have to say, 'Now, wait a minute, is that the right tempo? Is that the right take?' It's your decision. Nobody else can do it." The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will make his first appearance in support of Surprise at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival on May 7th, and is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live on May 13th Source: Rolling Stone Magazine

  20. Don Cheadle may play Miles Davis in biopic ‘Training Day's’ Antoine Fuqua is a possible director for the film Reuters Updated: 12:09 a.m. ET March 14, 2006 NEW YORK - Jazz legend Miles Davis, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, may be resurrected in a biographical movie with Don Cheadle playing the lead, Davis’ family said. His nephew, Vince Wilburn, told reporters after Davis was inducted into the Hall of Fame that Sony Pictures was working on a movie as well as planning several CDs to celebrate what would have been Davis’ 80th birthday later this year. "People are submitting scripts to Sony Pictures," Wilburn said. "A few names have come up [to play Davis] but Don Cheadle’s name keeps coming up," he said. Wilburn said the movie could touch on Davis’ private life as well as his career as a groundbreaking jazz musician who later branched out into music that crossed over into rock and funk. Wilburn said a possible director for the film was Antoine Fuqua, best known for "Training Day," the movie for which Denzel Washington won a best-acting Oscar in 2002. Davis’ son, Gregory, recalled touring with his father, who died of a stroke in 1991, and said he would have been proud of the honor bestowed on him at Monday’s gala ceremony in New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel. "We’re very proud because this man’s ancestors came out of slavery and he’s an international icon all over the world and America should be proud of him," he said. Asked about Davis’ reputation as a tough and difficult man, his daughter, Cheryl, conceded that image was accurate at times but said there was another side to him. "He wasn’t an angry black man ... he was very humorous. ... He lived life to the fullest and he absorbed cultures from all over the world." Source: MSNBC
  21. This site may help. The bag of water trick which works on flies might also work on wasps - I see mixed info on this on the web.
  22. How about signing a prenup prehump agreement. No new laws necessary, good old contract law.
  23. I received my order from Mr. Mingus in good condition and in a timely manner.
