  1. I really really hope there is no battery problem (again). After the last go 'round with that crap you'd think they'd get it together. C'mon this is a music player first, fashion accessory, second. Neveronfriday, where'd you hear the battery news?
  2. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Why is it that when something from Gates goes wrong consumers call for Bill's head and yet when something from Jobs goes wrong the Apple faithful make excuses and keep drinking the kool-aid?
  3. He was almost 83. But he "missed it by that much". RIP Don Adams.
  4. Glad you're okay Berigan. I had the same thing happen to me once. A little corner of a brick hit dead center on the windshield. Had the tiniest little glass pellets all over me. Another time, coming home from college on the interstate at night, I noticed a pick-up truck was slowing down to stop on the overpass as I was approaching it below. Before I could react I notcied something being thrown down directly in my path. It was half of a cinder-block. It hit the road just ahead of me and to the right, but was still in my path. It glanced off the front, right corner of the underside of my car. Fortunately no major damage. Just a couple of scuff marks. It sure made on hell of a noise though.... Not unlike the noise I made as it was happening. I can't imagine who in the hell would get enjoyment out of doing something like that. A heavy object thrown down onto vehicles moving at highway speeds.... Yeeehaw!
  5. Just tuned in and heard a plug for the new Organissimo album!
  6. Chuck, you lost me.... Does this mean you suspend your CDs using rubber bands? I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere and we'll all have a laugh once it's explained.
  7. For those of you using the sleeve solution, how do you feel about the discs resting on their edges rather than being suspended by their hubs in the jewel case? Anyone go to this solution and then go back to jewels? I'm reaching my storage limits and am considering options that I previously wouldn't have considered... I'm just looking for some reassurance that the sleeves are safe.
  8. I just bought a 2006 Honda Accord LX Special Edition for my fiancee. It's her first NEW new car.
  9. Okay I can get behind that. I love those two. But I doubt SOJS will come off my shelf that often.
  10. Listening to the latest batch. Already had the Mitchell material on the Mosaic and had the Spanish Leo, but the rest of it is new to me. Sorry, got to say it. Enough with the Jimmy Smith RVGs! Move on to some other equally deserving artists. Maybe it was organ overload, having started with the Lonnie Smith, but I found SOJS to be grating on the nerves. I like most of his other stuff, but I had to hit the SKIP DISC button midway through.
  11. For the readers... 25% Off One Book through 9/18
  12. I like the music from Bill Murray's Broken Flowers. Soundtrack Ethiopiques Vol. 4: Ethio Jazz & Musique,... Had no idea there was such a thing as Ethiopian Jazz.... Full title: Ethiopiques Vol. 4: Ethio Jazz & Musique, Instrumentale 1969-1974. The selections on ETHIOPIQUES VOL. 4 are taken from two previously released albums, ETHIOPIAN MODERN INSTRUMENTAL HITS and YEKATIT: ETHIO JAZZ. Personnel includes: Mulatu Astatke, Fekade Amde Meskel. The fourth in a series of compilations of early-to-present Ethiopian jazz, this release focuses on instrumentals. Heavily horn-based, the ensembles are sonically multi-faceted, including an almost psychedelic electric guitar and acoustic and electric bass, vibes, and piano. This volume focuses on the arrangers and composers of the late '60s and early '70s, highlighting both the Amha Records label and innovative bandleader Mulatu Astatke. The arrangements combine traditional jazz elements with Ethiopian folk tunes, creating a foreign yet pleasantly familiar feel. From the lilting saxophone of "Tezeta" (Nostalgia), to the jumping organ of "Yegelle Tezeta" (My Own Memory), each song carries its own story, relayed by many tempos. The most percussive, "Munaye" (My Muna), speaks with African beats accompanied by bongos and bell-like sounds accented with jazz guitar solos and well-timed horn bursts. Various stringed instruments provide a warmly personal feel. The cover photo, featuring Duke Ellington holding an African instrument as he jams with Mulatu Astatke, highlights the album's Ethiopian jazz sound.
  13. Congratulations Paul! I got engaged back in May. I've been counting down to the big day. June of '06 - it's either too long of a wait or not long enough. I'm sure you'll see it both ways between now and then.
  14. Directly from the coupon: Excludes previous and online purchases, gift cards, periodicals, comics, and non-stock special orders. What can I say, I'm an attorney--I read the fine print.
  15. Same thing...just doesn't last as long. Good through 09/05 30% off one item
  16. I found Coltrane's Complete Village Vanguard on the stock-search but they couldn't find it in the store....the first time. I went back a week later and they found it....and I had a 25% off coupon! While they were trying to track it down, I saw on their computer that they had it in the store since 1998!
  17. In Chicago for a conference and noticed that the Virgin Megastore was in the process of moving it's Jazz section out of the separate side room and out on to the main part of the 2nd floor. It was nice while it lasted....
  18. Dr. Egon Spengler: Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds. Winston Zeddemore: That's a big Twinkie.
  19. I missed this too when it was first posted. I don't venture into the Discography forum as often as I do some of the others. I posted a duplicate thread in Misc. Music, but deleted it after several links were posted to the original material. This is by no means meant as a criticism, but I hope we don't have to wait as long for this material to be commercially available as we did for the Bird & Diz Town Hall. I know a lot of work goes into getting stuff like this to market and when you involve a corporate machine like Impulse! it can take a while. That's why sometimes early news of these amazing discoveries can be a mixed blessing. We're such an instant gratification society - we almost expect a link to CDUniverse to appear at then end of such threads.
  20. I thought caramel covered nougat was at the center of a Milky Way...
  21. ARRRGHHH? I think you mean D'OH!
  22. praying mantis eats humming bird
  23. I came across Lee Morgan's The Lion and the Wolf in Get Shorty the other evening.
  24. Nope, a Mickelson birdie on 18! Back from the grave I guess!
  25. He reminded me a little of Alfred Molina. Check out his credits. You know him. You just don't know that you know him.
